Amerijuanican
High all, I've had my 34g Solana up and running for about 6 months now. It was an upgrade from a BC14g that was running for 1.5+ years. Everything is great... Packed full of coral, not overstocked on fish, everything has been growing and spreading nicely and so far I haven't had any real problems There is just one thing that has puzzled me... My Superman Monti and my Orange Monti will not grow. They are not bleaching, they just haven't grown one bit since I have put them in the tank. They are both in adequate light and my calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium are all optimum... And I have a few Acro's and a Stylophora that are near to them that have been growing like a weed ever since I put them in the tank. I am just puzzled because I thought that Monti's were supposed to be easy and grow quickly (as far as SPS is concerned) and plus 2 of the Acros I have are supposedly much harder to keep. Any thoughts or advice is more than welcome. Thanks in advance. My tank 2 months ago: Link to comment
Sexy Shrimp
Do you skim heavily? It may be that you are removing good nutrients as well as bad nutrients. I find if my nitrate is readable but less than 5 I have better coral growth than if the nitrate is at 0. I figure that if all the nitrates aren't gone then neither is all the good stuff Link to comment
Amerijuanican
I'm running the Tunze DOC Nano Skimmer and I do skim pretty dry. I might try skimming a little more wet. My nitrates are at about 10ppm actually. One thing I just thought of though is that I run carbon for 2 weeks on/ 2 weeks off. Would it be best to run it more regularly? Link to comment
qbical
where is it located in your tank and r u sure your calc test kit is good? Link to comment
glennr1978
Monti's can be wierd. some of mine grow fast and look great while others don't. All my other SPS do just fine. All my relevant parameters check out as well, and they have plenty of light and flow but not too much. I don't get it either. The thing that sucks is the ones that look the worst are my two sunset monti frags. Link to comment
O-man21
They love high flow. I've heard of them not growing in low flow, then exploding in higher flow. Literally. Bursting into flames. Link to comment
SeeDemTails
Montis are not always easy, unless they are caps. Encrusters and digitatas can be picky about what they like. I am getting out of control growth right now from my rainbow monti....which started after the tank settled from the move and my NO3 dropped back down to 0. Link to comment
Amerijuanican
I have a Koralia 2, and 3 Koralia 1's in the tank. Could this be TOO MUCH flow for the mont?. They are kind of near the top where the flow is the greatest. The water looks pretty turbid but most of the corals love it. I've had noticeable growth increase from my acros after adding the Koralia 2. I'm going to try and run my skimmer more wet and see how that works too. Link to comment

Does your rainbow monti have the different color polyps? If so, where do you have yours placed, high light or low light. I have one since the first of the year and all I'm getting is the orange polyps with great polyp extension and good growth, but no other colors. Link to comment
