angrytaxman Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I have this coral in my tank. At night or when it's agitated it closes up and all that is left is a hard rock with circular holes with a star pattern in the middle. There's tons of these 1/4" holes all around it and the "strands" come out of them when it opens up during the day. The "rock" is bone white and very sharp just like coral, so I'm trying to figure out what kind of coral this is. (Click for bigger)

Turkey Baster Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 galaxia coral. This thing has a very powerful sting, so keep if far away from other corals.

Turkey Baster Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 No problem. I like the looks and movement of this coral but... It will kill most corals...
angrytaxman Posted June 27, 2008 Author Posted June 27, 2008 No problem. I like the looks and movement of this coral but... It will kill most corals... That's why the zoos behind it are starting to shrivel up. I had no clue. It will only kill them through contract correct? It won't do damage if I keep it away from other corals?
Izzue Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Small dogs...LOL Watch that coral at night...it will extent sweepers up to 8 inchs that sting and kill... Izzue

angrytaxman Posted June 27, 2008 Author Posted June 27, 2008 +1, was just about to ask how big your tank is. It's a 24g DX Nano Cube with stock lighting. I'll probably be upgrading to 150w MH in the next month or so.
Turkey Baster Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 i have heard that ORA has a type that has either really short or no sweepers. does anyone else now this to be true Maybe I have one of those... I have nice Galaxia and I have never seen those long sweepers. I checked at all hours of the day and night. But, I keep it in it's own corner of the tank just to be safe.
