Hanson77
I see no difference. Skirt is the main difference besides the way the body grows. Most of your normal zoas stay short and pack tightly together on whatever they are growing on where as your Paly's grow up in somewhat of a stem fashion. I could be way off but that is the main differences that I have seen. Link to comment
Carolinapico
Palys seem to have much larger polyps in comparison to Zoas. Link to comment
Lear
To quote Nanu-Nanu from NCNRS.org on this subject: "Palys like... eat stuff." Link to comment
Reef Goddess
Palys often have 2 sets of skirts whereas most zoos just have one. They are usually bigger than zoos when grown under the same lighting. Link to comment
Aqua newbie
OH So I have A 1/2 INCH GREEN ZOA-IT'S NOT A PALY BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE TWO SKIRTS? Link to comment
ironmics
Palys share a mat, zoa's don't supposedly. I have tiny palys(bb sized) and big zoas(dime sized). Most of the time anything big is advertised as paly and small is advertised as zoas. Link to comment
av8ffej
I've also heard that zoas have a round mouth and palys have a horizontal mouth. Then again, what do I know? I started out an SPS guy, I'm new to them. Link to comment
ironmics
Also there is a ton of things related to these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoanthid so who knows lol. I know yellow polyps are parazoanthus. Acrozoanthus seem to have very long skirts. Isaurus are snake polyps. Protopalythoa is what looks like what "palys" are. Palythoa are crater polyps maybe? amq
Palys share a mat, Zoas are individual polyps. Link to comment
