smarsh
I had got a green acro about 2 months ago. I quickly learned that the PC lights in my tank were not enough when it turned olive green/brown. I got new T5s about 3 weeks ago and it has been turning neon green with full polyp extension. Today I noticed a white spot on the side of it. Looks like there is no tissue there. It got a little bigger throughout the day. The coral looks fine but im not sure if this white area is going to spread more. I have gone through so much trying to save this acro and it has been doing better every day. Tank is testing fine. Should I cut it bove the white spot and attach it to a new plug? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Link to comment
Oceanic 30g
Where is it placed in the tank? Can you provide a FTS and a shot of the spot? White spots usually indicate bleaching which is the functional equivalent of a dead spot. Pics would help though. Link to comment
abe
spreading? could it possibly be RTN? or it could be bleaching, but i doubt it, bleaching is much slower. it probably has nothing to do with lighting, most likely, it is tank parameters. Link to comment
Reef Goddess
Sounds like rtn, hopefully not. Maybe try dipping it if it continues to see if that will stop it. Maybe the change was too sudden for it from crappy lights to better lights. Sps are funny sometimes. I had two colonies of identical purple valida growing right beside each other and one day one of them started rtning for no apparent reason. It was gone by the next day. The other valida and all my other sps are doing great. ??? Link to comment
gulfsurfer101
I've had some turn white at the base and within two days it was completely lifless. It had to do with excessive nutreints in the water. SPS need an establihed tank, good skimmer, and pristine water condtions to thrive. I would do a twenty percent water change and hope it hangs on. Link to comment
smarsh
The spot got only a little larger today. The acro opens so nice now, it hasnt looked this good since I got it. It is really neon green today. Reef Goddess, What kind of dip are you speaking of? Lugols? Thanks for all your help everyone! Link to comment
Detritus07
I don't think you're supposed to used lugols on sps. I was told to use tech-d Link to comment
Reef Goddess
An iodine dip or Tropic Marin Procoral Cure. And maybe check for flatworms. Link to comment
