Cubby23 Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 OK I know there are a million threads on this, and I have done my reading. temp 79 salinity 1.024 amm/nate/nite 0 I am debating whether to do a treatment or not. I first noticed two spots yesterday, one near his right fin another smaller on on his left side near his tail. Today the one near his tail looks like its gone. I did add a coral frag and fire shrimp from the store last night, could this have a real effect? Should I just see if it all just disappears?

It might seem like the symptoms get better or disappear in the short term but what is happening is the parasite has bred and is multiplying in the substrate. In the end it will come back worse and worse until it takes over the animal. The only real way to cure the problem is to move the fish to a quarantine tank and treat them there and allow the parasite to die in your reeftank. The normal treatment is copper which will kill all inverts in a reeftank so a quarantine tank is essential. The fish really should be out of your main display for a total of 30 days to be on the safe side. If it is Ick you really need to remove all your fish as the parasite will just infect the others prolonging the time it takes to get it out of your display. Once you have the quarantine tank up and running make sure all your new arivals spend a few weeks there to monitor for issues like ick. Steve
Cubby23 Posted June 23, 2008 Author Posted June 23, 2008 OK it sounds like I'm going to set up a 2.5g. He is only 1.25" long. I will get about 1.75 gallon of water out of my tank today, then mix a little bit more. Should I just follow the doses on the QuICK Cure bottle? one drop per gallon everyday? What filtration should I run? I know no carbon but just an air stone is no good right?

You will kill the fish if you put it in a new tank that you throw together in a trip to wal mart. Also, your fish is a clown, and it is well known they do horrible in copper treatments because they are a scaleless fish. Dont further stress the fish with poisonous metal treatments, the trauma of catching it, and then the stress of the uncycled "qt" tank that is really killing your fish faster. You need to do water changes in your display, and feed the fish some good food, like mysis and formula flakes. Your probably wondering why your cleaner shrimp isnt eating the ich, thats because they are horrible cleaners, and clowns dont like to be cleaned by them for the most part. Your best hope is to do a lot of water changes and feed the fish good food several times a day. Dont add anything to the tank until you figure this out. What type of test are you using? What type of salt are you using? Are you running filter floss?
