I've always wanted a reef tank and when my daughter said she wanted fish, I knew I had a reason to do it. The wife... well I'm hoping she will come around after the inital sticker shock is over. Sounds good so far, keep us updated! Pictures of how I modified the drip tray... This will allow me to put in whatever filter media I choose and should be easy to swap out. I figure if it get's clogged the water will go right over it and fall down the drip tray. This is unproven but based on other mods I don't see why this wouldn't work. This picture shows it much better: Link to comment
EvMiBo
Thank you for the pictures. I'll be doing basically the same thing once I get my 29bc in August, good stuff! Link to comment

spanko
Some pictures:FTS Clam FTS More to come later I am sorry to tell you this but the plant you have looks like Caulerpa. If it is it will overrun your tank in no time. Do a search on the site here to see others that have or had problems with it. Your rockwork is very nice. Link to comment
dahliaheartsyou
flame scallops need a more established aquarium with proper Ca to help their shells grow, also they are specialist filter feeders that require a lot of planktonic food of the correct particle size and the right flavor and rely SOLEY on that food source because it is non-photosynthetic.... Besides that, the tank looks good, nice mods! Link to comment

Besides that, the tank looks good, nice mods! Ok. The flame scallop came as a freebie from TBS Live rock, along wiith some kind of lobster, Red Mithrax Crab, Serpant Star and some Cucumbers. Not sure what to do with them... I'll be calling some LFS's soon I guess. Link to comment
spanko
Is that the full package, or do you have another delivery to get still. Since you spent the money on the rock you got I might be tempted to leave all as is with the exception of the caulerpa. Just to see how it develops. I mean you paid to get the life on the rock. Depending on what you want to eventually keep, the lobster(depending on what kind...) or really any, usually eat fish... and there are all different kinds of opinions on the crab... Are those dark dots in the left side of the 1st pic hermits? If so, they look so cute all congregating together! Link to comment

Yea, It's the full package. I put in the 2nd part yesterday, the rock is full of worms, feather dusters, barnacles, sponges and other stuff I haven't ID'd yet. There was a bunch of plants and Gorgonian I didn't put in, It seemed to take up too much room and didn't really fit the the look I was going for. Yea I figure the serpent star, lobster and crab need to leave before I put in fish. You can see the crab on the top left rock. He's huge! The serpant star with it's arms spread I bet is 7" long. I'll get a picture. Yea, those are all blue leg hermit's... I would guess there's 10 of them on that rock. Link to comment
spanko
Too bad you did not put the gorgs in there. They are cool things if they live well in your tank. Link to comment

Well, I have heard horror stories of tanks crashing soon after the death, but it would seem only decaying matter...but people don't really understand their diets yet, so they eventually starve to death...which is sad... WHOA that crab is huge!!! I would look into the specific type of star it is, personally I love them, but if they are green they have a nasty habit of eating fish...uh oh! but i'd love to see a pic of your star! If it doesn't it is a serpent... But....I think that at 7 in already it could eat a smaller fish if it got hungry enough It could be... Ophiothrix purpurea Atlantic Serpent Link to comment
Acrophet
Well my tank has been sitting for a week and a half with perfect water parms. I'm looking to add fish within the next couple weeks. I want to get 2 Black & White Ocellaris Clownfish - Tank-Bred Is it ok to get both at the same time or do I need to add one and then wait to get the other? As a reminder this is a 29gal Biocube with Stick Lighting. Link to comment
spanko
I would add both of them at the same time. Get one larger than the other. The larger will become the female the smaller the male. Not a lot of difference in size just enough to be able to see the difference. They will eventually become a mated pair. There may be a little jostling for position at first but that will be normal. Acrophet
Updated pictures! My large crab... Anyone know what he is? Anyone know what kind of snail that is in the back? Link to comment
j'field
Hi Acrophet, not so sure about the crab. But I think that snail seems to be some kinda conch to me. Anyway your scaping of the rocks is nice. Link to comment
Acrophet
Looking to add another fish... Since my last update I added some xenia and GSP, but the GSP hasn't opened yet and when it appears that it will another snail or crab walks on it. Eiter way I was thinking of adding a yellow watchman goby, any issues in doing that? I'm also going to add some zoas and a hammer soon. Link to comment
