The Propagator
and bought on eof those $58.00 100gpd 6 stage RO /DI units off Ebay. It should be here some time next week. I'll let you guys know how it wirks out. I have a good TDS meter so I'll be able to tell you what its actually removing and putting out. It came with a free float switch so thats a plus right off the bat aside from the insanely low price for the unit. I can just run it through the side of a 35 gallon rubbermaid can put the can on a dolley, hook up the RO/DI unit and call it a day with out having to worry about over runs. I will still have to discard the 1st 30 gallons or so for break in though ( incase any one is thinkin g "you forgot..." ) Link to comment
abe
all my RODI units are ebay bought. all take my 300-500TDS hose water and make it 0. and on one of them i haven't changed out anything for over two years. never checked out the one you're talking about. i'd like to see how this turns out because $58 is a realy good deal. tinyreef
i still can't fathom why i didn't get mine earlier. stoopid! *head-smack* and why i let it sit for almost another year before hooking it up! *double-head-smack!!* d'oh! you won't regret it, prop. for a little nano, it's unnecessary (unless you also use it for drinking, which i do). but for anything bigger? RO or RO/DI is almost as mandatory as an ATO imho. Link to comment
The Propagator
I have never use done in all the many years I have been reefing. After I saw how the colors perked up in a big big way on a friends tank after he switched to RO/DI I said " well thats it.Time to do it" Then I found this cheap unit and it was like I couldn't afford not to do it ya know. jm82792
This will be interesting since those units are so cheap, I'm considering one when I get corals and so on then things are all nice looking I'll dump money into a RO unit. Link to comment
skydive
Great for drinking water, NO floaters! Grab two glasses, fill one with tap the other with RO, inspect & taste them. Never will I drink from the tap again. Taste too much like metal now. Link to comment
jm82792
My spring water tastes awsome,I muck out the spring and I dunno how it's all nice and clean at the other end.. Link to comment
The Propagator
Natural filtration through rocks, algae, and other substrate. Is it a glacial stream fed spring ? Link to comment
sil80guy
hmm i would also like to see how it works out for you. I plan on getting a RO/DI system but arnt to sure about adding it to the sink. Is it difficult and requires removing the pipes? If so I would have to check with the manager of my apartment if I could mess with the sink. Link to comment
The Propagator
It comes with and adapter to hook it directly up to your faucet. You just screw off the cap on your faucet then screw on the adapter. Or you can use the saddle clamp valve. It clamps around an exposed water pip and you screw donw on the tee then screw it back out VIOLA ! water source. Plan on leaving that valve in place when you move though. You'll need to screw it all the way closed to stop any leakage. Link to comment
dtfleming
You wont regret it prop, love mine Link to comment
The Propagator
2 days left until it arrives. ( so says the tracking number anyways ) I am always like a kid on Christmas morning when ever I order something through the mail. I don't care how small or insignificant it may be. I'll be right there impatiently waiting. Link to comment
cmador
I hooked mine up to a trash can using a float switch to keep it full. It's nice to have plenty of ro/di water available whenever I need it. Link to comment
abe
I hooked mine up to a trash can using a float switch to keep it full. It's nice to have plenty of ro/di water available whenever I need it. waste water down the drain? i put my waste water into my plants, and it runs 24/7 (with a float switch to prevent overflowing) so far i have no problems with a 10g resevior for my 285g. planning on getting a bigger resevoir though (possible 100g). seems to me like an ro/di is an ro/di. it you can always replace filter media inside. bdare
I'll have to agree these units all seem to work. I have a coralife Pure Flo II which lots of people like to rip on. I've had it for years and it works great. I consistenly get 0 TDS ouput. I certainly can't see what the high dollar units have that the cheap ones don't. As long as you're using good prefilters and a filmtec RO membrane you are SET! Link to comment
The Propagator
UPS says it will be here Thursday afternoon. Got a fresh bucket of salt burning a hole in my floor just waiting for me to get the unit , trash the 1st 40 gallons or so and mix it up with RO/DI water. Link to comment
glennr1978
So have you been using tap water all this time? Or do you have a stash of like 200 jugs of water from walmart in a dungeon somewhere? Link to comment
H7brandi
Hope the results are good! I just spent more than that on replacement filters and membrane! Link to comment
The Propagator
Glenn, YUP ! Been using tap water all this time with no problems what so ever until recently. I think the city water works changed things on me or something needs changed in their system. Normally I get around 150 ppm out of the tap. ( thats unheard of !) Lately I have been getting 250 - 275 ( thats not acceptable to me). Normally, Norwood has the absolute BEST water in just about the entire state of Ohio. Thats why I never used an RO/DI set up before and was able to keep brilliant acro's. Now since the switch up at the local water works I noticed changes in coloration, checked the TDS out of th etap after replacing my bulbs and seeing no difference and discovered the increase. So the unit arrived today ( discovered I only have to trash 6 gallons instead of 40 YEAH !!! ) and all I have to say is.. BUY ONE WHILE YOU CAN AT THIS CRAZY LOW $58.00 + $30 something shipping ! BEFORE THEY GO UP ! Its WORTH IT. -0- TDS after break in. ZERO. I bought the 100 gpd 6 stage unit with dual DI chambers. After wards I was reading they had a zero tds unit. I was like WTF MAN ! but its $40.00 more. I checked the specs and it is the same unit to my eye and their specs. Unless the membrane is special ? Any way I get -0- TDS with this so I am a happy camper. I hun git up in my utility/laundry room. Directly to the feed line with the supplied and FREE float valve and tied the waste water directly to the drain lie with the supplied saddle drain. So far so good I love this little buger. A few leaks after watering it down but they were easy to fix. Just tighten them a little. I'll snap some pics later on tonight when I get back home with my brute can. The float i sin the side of an old salt bucket for now Link to comment
bdare
Hey Prop, Be sure to check what the TDS is before it hits your DI. If it's higher than 10 you could run through DI very quickly. Ben Link to comment
totalimmortal363
I went to wally world a few days ago and the culligan tech recorded a TDS of 29. Isn't that a tad high for RO? Link to comment
The Propagator
OMG YES. That chit needs changed out badly. Link to comment
Pship
When did you get the reading? Usually you need to flush the kit for about 5-10 minutes after and before use. After that grace period you will get a correct reading. Link to comment
totalimmortal363
I thought it seemed a bit high. I'm sure it's much lower than what coming out of my tap. Link to comment
