Help with Mushrooms

I have a rock with beautiful red/purple mushrooms growing on it.  Some were absolutely huge (2x silver dollar size).  Then one day I got up and they were all ballooned at the stems and the heads were like dead.  Now there is no sign of them.  Where did they go?  Why did they die?  Are they dead?  

My water perameters are fine.  All is good.  Do mushrooms only have a certain life expectancy?  Please help.

i bet you they moved.  mine have done that before.  i've seen them inflate too.  you might find them if you move your rocks around.  i find mine all the time, and i'll stick them in a hole in the live rock.  sometimes they stay, sometimes they move again.  jmo
