Kimberly63
I've been wanting to set up a pico tank and I'm currently not using my biocube 8 and the lighting (36w) would be perfect over a pico. Has anyone ever done this? I'd prefer to not build it into a canopy, but to fit the fixture into some kind of pendant (not sure what though) and hang it over a pico tank. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Link to comment
dopamine
I am going to do this with bc14 lights once I get a ATO. I am going to build a hood for my work 7 gallon AIO. Can't wait because my current dual 18w won't support corals and it has just been rock and sand for 4 months. Wasnt sure if this would be ok though, the tank is 12" tall. Link to comment

Did you make the 7g yourself? I don't have the means to build myself a hood or I probably would. I didn't know what else I could use. Link to comment
dopamine
yeah, I made the tank myself. 5 gallon display with a 2 gallon viewable fuge. I think I could make a capony pretty easy, just dont want to rip that hood up right now, at least until I get the ATO. Link to comment
diggman08
your Currnt 18wtt. wont supporst corals??? that is false information sir... a stock 9wtt Pico light supports just about all softies and mushrooms.. i would think a 18wtt. would definetly do it.. and they would flourish Link to comment
evilc66
I think he was refering to using an 18W over a 7 gallon tank. Thats pushing it a bit, except for the most low light corals. Link to comment
seagul
im running a 5.5g rimless tank with 18watts of pc, should be plenty for zoa's and any other softies. 3-4watts per gallon for softies is my rule of thumb 7-10 for SPS corals, depending on what specifically. Link to comment
dopamine
I had a small frag of zoanthids in there and they were stretching. My co worker is running the same set up and starting buying corals like an idiot...I told him not to rush it. but he has favia, xenia, gsp, trumpet, and zoas. that all look like they are fading away from not getting enough light. I have crazy amount of pods, cheato, TONS of purple coralline and that harlequin in it. It looks bad ass with the black sand and all but would love to get some better lights so I can grow out some corals. I just saw the zoanthids stretching and decided not to half ass it. edit: what evil said. Link to comment
