Kraylen
Man up and yell and the little bastid. Use force and use enough force to reset the problem and you'll never have to worry about it again. Until then your methods will fail and therefore strengthen the hobbits reign of terror. Nothing worse than someone elses kids messing your ish up. Link to comment
fishez4alivin
Comeon man, that's bullshiot, if i can't use my mind to figure out what to do, then I'm a retard. I have a lot more experience then some 10 year old, I'm pretty sure that I can out think her. Pretty much the whole thing is a for attention, what kind of attention a person needs is different from one person to another. I remember an ex-gf that told me " I knew you didn't love me cuz you never hit me" I bet that sad case used to get beat up from her dad...so before you man up, you really should think of the LONGterm consequences of your actions. I guarantee if I had her living here with us, she wouldn't be as bad. And I wouldn't need to lay a finger on her.....but maybe my wife will We went to the store and they didn't get any new livestock, so I bought some live brine shrimp and had her soak it with Zoe, and Selcon,,,,here she is checking it out... fishez4alivin
this wouldn't happen if kids were actually afraid of consequences. thats why you should beat the crap out of them. This fool did Daddy musta kicked his ass many days. I would never want to intimidate a kid into doing it "my" way...wtf? Because beating the crap out of a kid doesn't do them any good, case in point, every story I hear about parents kickin the crap out of them, seems to have mainly repeat performances, so is the kid so dumb he keeps getting in trouble...or is the parent some lame phuck that cant kick ass on anyone his own age? Usually an alcoholic or doper, these parents get no respect from me for their tough talk. Plus I'm a stepdad, not the actual father, and I have them for 2 months and a week at Christmas. So I'm not having any real impact on their lives at this young age. Anyway, those kinds of parents usually get their bell rung by their kid by the time they are in their late teens. Which is sad, because many, end up continuing the cycle over again with their own kids. Link to comment

jennifro
The whole step family thing can be so hard. I know it took several years after my mom got married again for us to all feel like a family. But then 10 years later when I got married I had both my dad and my step-dad walk me down the isle. I think having yours step daughters help with tank things is great. And if it works out that they can pick things to go in it even better! Let them see you do water changes and water testing. They are old enough to understand how much love, time, $, and technical stuff goes into to. Let the understand how important it is for everything to be just right. Also be sure they understand that all those corals are really living creatures. Maybe give them small "helper" jobs when you care for the tank. It can help keep your tank safe and be a great bonding thing for all of you. It must be very hard for all of you to only be together for a couple months. I would imagine that just as things start going well it is time for them to go back to their other home. You might consider getting them a small tank of their own. Even something like a little beta tank could be fun and cheap. Oh, and you should show her that you put her picture on line too! You could even start a new thread about her helping you or something and post the pictures there. I bet she would love to see that and maybe read a post from you saying how much fun it is to have helpers! Just a thought! I hope things get better. Hang in there! Link to comment
fishez4alivin
I'm setting this up for her tomorrow, I already have enough live rock and water mixed up, its should be easy. Ill let her aquascape and set it all up. Probably just have a FOWLR, use it as a QT tank. Maybe I should tie it into my sump and then I wont have a heat issue Link to comment

TUDIZZLE
I've heard of adults having trouble getting a tang out of the tank, let alone some 10 year old. would have just given here the benefit of the doubt. Glad to see you getting her interested in the hobby. My 2 and 6 year old play an active roll in my reef tank and even know the scientific names of many of our corals. We were at Disney World early this year and went on the "Finding Nemo" ride. While other kids were shouting out look theres Nemo my oldest was all "Dad look a true perc, check out the suncoral!" It was awesome. Link to comment

She should love having her own thread. You are making a difference in her life. She may only be with you a short time each year but her time with you will be memory makers-good or bad. It's up to you & you sound like you are making wise choices. It always took my boys 6 weeks to get back to thier normal selves after spending time with their Dad. About the time she gets in her groove with you, it is time to go home. Divorce is hardest on the kids & leaves lasting scars. They often feel that they were the cause of the break-up & need to be reminded often that they are loved. That may be all her acting out is about. Great job in turning the tide. Link to comment
Detritus07
I like the idea of setting up a tank for her. Wait until she's really into it, then unplug everything. jk Link to comment
doncb
If you actually catch them doing something to the tank, tell them that next time you catch them within 10 feet of the tank they each have to drink the skimate from the skimmer. Then show them the cup! My cousin had a saltwater tank (eons ago). His little sister decided to "feed" the fish when he wasn't home and dumped a bottle of iron filings in the tank. Needles to say, nothing survived (well, his sister did). Link to comment
