lakshwadeep
chaetomorpha is fine with anything, even a single screw-in pc bulb: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...amp;pcatid=9870 Link to comment
Kool-cat
Cheato is not fine with anything. I have cheatomorpha lit with 14k phoenix and it doesnt even grow. In fact red hair algae grows on it. 6000k-6700k range would be great for growing cheato. Link to comment
gulfsurfer101
One of those wal mart lamp and reflectors for workshops will grow it like weeds. Link to comment
jm82792
Alright Thats warm daylight. I will post some pics/steps when I find a reasonable small CFL, show the wiring and such for people who don't know much about wiring stuff. It'll run off of the voltage supply for one of the 2 bulbs 8 watts won't effect anything before the ballast. Link to comment
johnmaloney
True enough! I love those cheap wal-mart bulbs for growing macroalgae. I had coral-life bulbs on a tank, when one of them went down, I switched to the Wal-Mart bulb for a quick fix until the LFS had some more in stock that fit, and noticed very good growth, so I have stuck with them ever since. Awesome results, awesome price. Link to comment
skydive
I have the same thing gulf is referring to. Clamp-on shop light with a 6500k 15w CFL. The chaeto grows very fast, AC 110 fuge and it gets filled up every two weeks. Link to comment
nanoreef-R
i find 5700 K to be the best, ive tried that and 6700,and 10K. Link to comment
jm82792
Hmm I needed to fit in the egg crate light diffuser thing for the floss may have to do cheato outside of the back chamber. Darn. How much current does cheato need ? I may move it over to the left where the pump is but the flow is not much compared to the right side. Link to comment
Mr. Fosi
How much current does cheato need ? IME, chaeto is pretty forgiving of all parameters except heat. Low flow might slow it's growth (less nutrient availability) or it may not. Link to comment
