reefinnewb
I am going to be building a new tank and to keep the number of holes down, i would like to combine one of the returns of the closed loop with the sump return. Basically I would splice the sump return into the CL with a Y. This would only be done on the one return. Has anyone ever done this? Can you forsee any problems? I'm pretty sure it will work. I don't have a whole lot of flow coming from the sump return. This will be on a SCWD so the returns will alternate. Link to comment
r3tic
I would keep them seperate. If you loose power the tank will drain to the level of the lowest return. In most cases a closed loop return is low enough to cause a sump to overflow in that situation. You could run the return line over the top of the tank if you want to keep the number of holes down. reefinnewb
I was going to install check valves to eliminate the risk of sump overflow in that event. Link to comment
Mr. Fosi
You don't want to put your faith in check valves. Link to comment
