B0ardinman
So i went to vivid aquariums in so cal and checked out their store. Pretty impressive! They really specialize in frags- they have tons! I asked a guy their a question but I wasnt totally sure about his answer. Most of their frags come on a circle cute disk shape of rock. About 1.5" to 2"inches in diameter and about .5"inches thick. Almost like a disk- perfectly smooth- grey color. Do you glue that base piece directly to the LR? I think it would looks kinda unsightly. I guess the idea is for the coral to grow and cover it? Or do you detach the coral from this based and the glue to to LR? It looks like some frags were on a small piece of LR then glued on top of the disk. Thanks Brian Link to comment

uglyamericanV1.5
i does look unsightly........ its just one of those things........ lets say i buy one polyp frag of some crazy zoa at 20$ (totally awesome zoa) leave it on the disk, let it grow a bit before messing with it. if its like 20 polyps you can slice about half off and glue to rock then wait and see if one or the other makes it..........both should, but you dont want to lose all your monies because you didnt like the mounting. most if not all frags are done in this way (come on disks) sometimes i leave it on the disk and let it grow off the disk then i pull it off the rock. then some zoas are on the rock while alot are still on the disk. rinse repeat. if the polyp is on lr and glued to a disk then there is no danger just poping off the lr from the disk and gluing it to another lr. its when cutting is involved when the danger starts.
