Goonter
alright, i am really looking into this Odyssea/Icecap (Fixture)hybrid fixture for my 40g tank. it is 20"h x 24"w x 18"d. I hear this is a good setup, and i am curious for other people's feedback. I currently have an Aqua Medic 150w MH, i am wondering how i would transition the corals to the lighting in this stronger setup. Also, i am wondering how easy is it for corals to adapt to more intense lighting? I have a decent amount of softies and some lps. I am looking to maybe house a few clams and some sps with these lights, will they be strong enough or is it possible it will be too strong? thanks for feedback Link to comment
Mr. Fosi
Do a search for +light +acclimation. Link to comment
SPS20
Anytime you increase your lighting, (this includes replacing old bulbs) do the following: (This is a very basic version of something you should research a bit. It works for me, but may not work for you. Standard disclaimer, blah blah) 1. Raise your fixture higher above the tank, if possible. If this isn't possible, use eggcrate or some other material to attenuate the light slightly. 2. Decrease your photoperiod by about 20% or so. 3. Over the course of a couple of weeks, slowly lower the fixture and increase the photoperiod until it is back where you started. As I said, this is what I do, and it works for me. As Mr. Fosi said, you should research the topic a bit, and keep a close eye on your corals for signs of stress. Knowing what your corals look like when they are happy vs. when they are stressed is very important for proper acclimation. Link to comment
evilc66
Not saying that this is what you should do, but when I changed my 72W PC setup to a 70W MH I did no aclimation. Everything in my tank loved it. Again, this is my experience and your results may vary. Better to play it safe. Link to comment
