Hey all, my tank is all put together. I am going to put the water in soon, but i have some more noob questions if someone doesnt mind helping me out :) My local stores sell Cured Fiji (10$) and Cured Marshall Island (8$) Rock. Any preference? Its seems from what i read, that 8$ a lb for Marshall might be the way to go especially since it seems to be a good price.

Also i dont think it makes a difference (but i just to double check) Live sand is live sand right? I can get the marshall rock from one LFS and the sand (in the fiji tanks) from another?

Thanks for the help! As soon as i add the water, ill start up a blog with pics :)

Well, I'm about ready to buy my LR for my 24g NC. I'm going to mix it up. I have some LR that came with the tank, but only 2 smaller pieces look ... live. The other big pieces all look dead and white. Not sure if it's fake rock or what the deal is with it.

But why not mix & match? I personally am not a huge fan of Fiji (yet) but you could get some Fiji for the base and Marshall for the rest. Or something... I'm not very experienced, but the better looking tanks out there seem to do a bit of mixing & matching.

I'd also maybe take a look at some places that are further away. Those prices are kind of high. also check out the online stores... At $10/lb for Fiji, I think you can actually save money getting LR online.

Not sure about the sand.

agreed with brain, go with online to begin. you'll be buying a bunch, so it's economical at this point. if you're just looking to "top off" some rock later on, it'll be more economical to buy local. starting out, it's better to buy en masse/online. i'd also suggest ovebuying a little just to be sure you have enough. you can always store the extra or sump it.

my pers pref though is fiji over the other common name-types. it really depends more on the individual specimens though than fiji, vanatu, tonga, etc. ime. i'm actually not a big fan of marshall rock although i've found most consider it the higher quality rock versus fiji.
