HankB
whats the cheapest place to get live rock on-line......my lfs has it for 8.99.....yikes someone lead me in the right direction...can be live rubble also Check craigslist - but ask if the rock is in a FOWLR tank that might have been copper treated. Check any local forums at Reef Central. There's almost always someone in the Chicago area selling LR cheap. One on line spot is premium aquatics, but shipping on a small order may make it as expensive as your LFS. I don't know if they're cheapest but they have a good reputation. HTH, hank edit: If you double click on save - the post will include your text twice! Link to comment
aquascaper08
8.99 for live rock is a fair price. On line it wont be much cheaper and don't forget shipping. Craigslist is the best place to get it locally. Watch for hitchikers. Good luck. Link to comment

I agree, shipping online will kill whatever you saved on the price, so you might end up actually better with the $8.99 at your LFS where you can actually "pick" the rocks you like yourself. With online, or from someone in craigslist, you get what they pick or what is available. Link to comment
thebrainbot
I have to concur. I was in the same situation (technically still am as I have not bought my LR yet). For 22 lbs, the total came to $110 without shipping. Overnight shipping was $120... 2nd day $80. Thats roughly more/the same as from the LFS. And with the LFS, I don't risk additional die off during shipping and can really pick out what I want. Though I dunno what 10-14 lbs shipping would cost. I'd assume over half the cost of the 22lbs. Might as well check. Link to comment

BibleSue
I got mine from Sea Life Florida. It is more dense rock but had great stuff on it. You can see a bit of it in my sig. It came to about $8 lb including shipping. It had lots of beautiful color & lots of cool life. New stuff was still showing up 9 months later. They are out of pocket for shipping till mid month I think. Link to comment
thebrainbot
7.99 at my local fish store....and I thought that was expensive Well, my post may have been a little confusing. It's 6.99-7.99 /lb at my two LFS. I actually don't remember if it was 6.99 or 7.99. It's middle line as far as price. I've heard of places charging $10/lb and some places charging $5. Online though, you usually buy the rock for about $4-$5/lb. With overnight or 2nd day shipping though, the savings quickly melts away compared to buying it at 6.99/7.99 at the LFS. Think roughly $150 after tax at 6.99/lb for 20 lbs compared to about $180 for 22lbs after shipping from one of the good online dealers.... Link to comment
