ramesis
Hi, Yesterday I purchased a colony of Zoas. Three of them will not open. They are on the same side of the colony. I will post pics. I have never dipped in Lugol's. I am wondering if I should do a Lugol's dip or if a fresh water dip would help just in case something is irritating them that I am not seing. Any sugestions?? ramesis
Here are some pics.. Take note of the white bump on the polyp above the ones that do not open. The bump is in the stem. I am not sure if it is dividing or if it an infection. This one has it too. It looks like it is dividing but I am note sure Link to comment
Reef Chicks
I am having the same issue here. I purchased a few colonies recently and half of them open, half don't They have the same spots. Zoa pox? Weetie??? Link to comment
ramesis
I am also wondering if it is pox.. I have not seen it before but it could be. It looks whiter than the rest of the body. Link to comment
BibleSue
It is hard to tell if yours is pox from the picture. Try to blow it off with a turkey baster. It looks like it might be debris. Can you take them out & examine them? I have used the instructions listed here when I have gotten pox in on a shipment. There are some good pics of the pox here as well. http://www.zoaid.com/articles004.php Link to comment
Reef Chicks
Thank you Sue for that awesome link! Mine have a slight case of zoa pox for sure. I am doing the Furan-2 treatment beginning tonight! Link to comment
ramesis
It is hard to tell if yours is pox from the picture. Oh need to get myself a good camera to take macro shots. I do not think it is debris. But it also does not look like pox in my case. It looks more like it had a fleshy growth. I still wonder why those three polyps have not opened. They do not seem to have any blemishes or bumps, but do look severely stressed. phishyaly, Good luck with the treatment. Let me know how it goes!! Link to comment
Reef Chicks
Sue, I have a question that ramesis may run into as well. Do I put pure RO water in the treatment cup or freshly mixed SW? Also, what is the best dosage - 1 cup per table or 3 cups per tablet? Lastly, can I use the same dip for several colonies or does each one need a separate dip? Link to comment
ramesis
Good question! The more I look at pictures the more it might be. I guess I will wait a little and see if the problem persists I might try furan. Since I plan on getting more Zoas might as well keep a stach of furan and Ludol's at home. Link to comment
