They were doing great up till 3 days ago and they've rapidly declined in health. The milli has been growing at the top through all of this but at the bottom all the polyps are retracted and it turned from a tan to a lighter color and seems to be moving upwards by the hour. The stag(?) is showing the same symptoms but the plug I cut it off of has grown back a half inch in 2 months and looks very healthy as does the acro. Also the GSP is partially retracted.

They are all in high flow areas with a turnover rate of 60x and a 250w Sunpod 6" above the surface. The only addition is a Bicolor Blenny a couple weeks ago and this morning I added some chaeto to the fuge.

My tests are:

Am, trite, trate - 0

Calcium - 420

KH - 11

Phos - 0

pH - 8.2

SG - 1.025

I do water changes every weekend of 5g.

The milli keeps looking worse. Just the tops have polyps left. It looks almost like something is snacking on it, but I've searched day and night and can't find anything.

I have noticed these stringy hair like creatures coming from a whole in the rock. They aren't even close to the milli but the symptoms showed up the same time as them. I'll post in the ID thread and hopefully get them IDed.

This one is blurry but you can still see the affected area

This one just started today towards the base. On the very left is the stag plug that grew back.

did u spray anything in the room that could have contacted the water or something like that?

idk really just shootin from the hip since your params' seem to be fine. did u try running any carbon or anything like that?

I dusted last weekend but I always go outside and spray pledge on a rag. When this started I changed the carbon I have in the AC 110. I can add more carbon in the Prizm skimmer. Could that possibly help?

Update: The stag is a goner and the milli is close behind it :(

Not sure what's causing it. The fish and everything else are doing great, just these two frags.

yikes. ive no idea whats wrong. sounds like a water contamination issue.

If your in danger of losing everything Id do a massive water change asap. 50% probably.

Do you dose anything?

I don't know about a 50% wc all at once, that would likely shock your tank and cause even more problems. I would do a large wc however, just over a couple days rather than all at once.

When was the last time you tested for kh? I had a similar experience to yours a while back and high kh was to blame.

I'm dosing C-balance A&B 15mL each every 2 days. I've been testing before each dose and it's always the same, 9kh and Ca 400-420. The GSP I moved it more to the side of the tank and think that's why it closed up, now it's back open.

I did notice today a "spider web" within an inch to the frag in the top picture and also all over the intake for the AC 110. Any bug capable of doing this without being seen? Like I said I have searched day and night for anything that's possibly eating them and nothing show up. Do you think adding a cup of carbon (in addition to what's already in the filter) in the skimmers media basket might help if it's possible contamination?

SPS in small tanks are especialy chalenging. temp spikes/dips, pH spikes/dips, contaminants are just a few things. what do you have for softies??

My eyes would be on the bicolor blenny. They will sometimes pester corals, and if they pick on the same coral enough, will kill it.

too bad, those are nice looking corals. could be metal contamination, GFO works well on some of those, can you get a polyfilter? how about water changes?

Posted

I'll be able to do another water change in the morning. What's GFO, packing fiber? I turned the filter into a fuge so I have a space that I have a regular filter cartridge with carbon in it. Does that count as a polyfilter?

Softies I have a small mushroom rock with two rics. 3 head Hammer, GSP, Xenia, Trumpet. Oh yeah I did cut 2 stalks of Xenia a few days ago.

GFO is granular ferric oxide (pelitized rust) it is a phospate remover, it works on ion exchange, it also will remove other metals. polyfilter is a brand name. it is a pad with a secret mixture woven into it, it removes a broad spectrum of nastys. many swear by it and it has been proven for years

Just curious, but do you have a nearly sealed tank or an open top? Running a skimmer?

Posted

Open top and yes I have a skimmer.

Update: The milli seems to have stopped losing polyps and looks the same as the above picture. If it does make it is there any way for it to grow back at the bottom? The top part is fully extended and looks great, I can see more growth each day
