jz0717 Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 I'm starting a 10g softie prop tank. Where's the best place to buy the plastic eggcrate and suction cups? thanks.
colberag Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Egg crate is in the lighting section of Home Depot. Its like 12 or 15 bucks for 4 feet. Suction cups I have no clue. Maybe a craft store?

I know you can get airline tubing suction cups at your LFS.. but other than that I think you could also get suction cups at HD as well.... Thanks- Dave A.

xdfireguy Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 i use a mag float for my frag racks not suction cups they will move and slip +1 I just made up a frag rack for the frags I have comming in. I used a $5 mag cleaner from walmart, some left over egg crate and acrylic (for additional support)
Carolinapico Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 The egg crate is near the insulation in my Lowe's/HD. Ask someone if you can't find it, use the term "Lighting diffuser" as well.
d0ughb0y Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 just curious what/how the mag cleaner is used in the egg crate setup? +1I just made up a frag rack for the frags I have comming in. I used a $5 mag cleaner from walmart, some left over egg crate and acrylic (for additional support)
xdfireguy Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 The egg crate is superglued or epoxied to the top of the "inside" magnet. I used some scrap 1/4" acrylic to stiffen the underside of the shelf and secured it to the magnet as well. Using the magnet I can adjust the height / proximity to the lights without knocking everything over or worrying about the suction cups letting go.
d0ughb0y Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 thanks for the reply. Does that mean the egg crate takes the length of the tank? and perhaps the width also? xdfireguy Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 No, it is just a small shelf, maybe 3" deep by 12" long. I may be even trimming that down a bit. I'd take pictures, but I am having some issues with my tank right now. I'll try and get them up tommorow or Tuesday.
d0ughb0y Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 ok, so as you describe it, it is only supported on one side, like a shelf? So you are using the shelf in your regular (display) tank, and not in a propagation only tank? BTW, with that setup, do you have problems with snail climbing on to the shelf and knocking down frags? look forward to the pics, will be worth a thousand words. thanks No, it is just a small shelf, maybe 3" deep by 12" long.
