Aussie Acan, Acan Echinata

Kool-cat

Recommended Posts

This is my first acan, I Purchased it as Green Eye Acanthastrea.

Where is this from? Is it rare?

Whats the most you would spend on this?

Approx. 40+ Polyps. I got rid of a pest that bore a hole into the acan, it was yellowish and had many yellow eggs. I hope there are no more parasites.

Is this worth $120??

acan echinata. not a lord so not "rare", tho it can be depending on the true colors, which arent visible in that photo (looks blue). "ornage crush" is "rare" and an echinata, so it can be sought after.

the colony would retail for $120 in a retail store. not anywhere close online.

HTH.

Thanks for your input six. I don't know why it looks so blue. I'm using a phoenix 14k bulb.

What about these aussie acans, are they rare?

How long do you think it will take for these to grow another polyp?

Per something Bob Fenner posted on the subject and from my own recent experience if you feed them regularly they will grow quickly.

What do you feed them? Brand of food?

Will they grow quick just being under halides?

Edit: lol. I wrote whats the do you feed them? before.

The more often I feed the more they grow. They are under MH lights. Slow without feeding. I feed mysis about every other night. The like it every night but since I hand feed & I have more now, I have gone to every other night.

My buddy and I both feed our acans Mysis Shrimp. We've both seen growth being faster with feeding than without. They went months without feeding and only produced a couple new heads. With feeding it's a couple heads per month.

Mysis shrimp or small bits of krill. I recently found some freeze dried ones that work well. I got sick of polluted water from the frozen stuff.

Where did you find the freeze dried ones? I hand feed each head to keep from polluting the water but it takes a long time.
