HQI Lighting Upgrade for 12G

Hey All,

Want to upgrade the lighting on my CAD 12G (stock is 4x8W T5 NO), with the goal to someday have enough light in the tank to support a clam.

 

Main limiting factor with this tank is the dimensions, only ~15" wide at the top.

 

Been looking at:

 

• Sunpod 16.5" 70W
  
• AquaMedic 70W/150W Pendant
  
• Coralife 150W Hang on Tank
  
• JBJ Viper 2 (sorta last resort) (70W/150W)
  
• DIY Retro Job on Existing CAD Hood (70W)
  

 

Top of my list right now is the AquaMedic 150W pendant for a couple of reasons: 1) I can hang it a little higher to help with the heat from the lamp. 2) It is a close match to the stock CAD hood.

 

I was leaning toward the Sunpod 70W, however I can't seem to find the light anywhere. I also like the added light from the 150W, as well as the increased bulb selection.

 

I have a couple of concerns:

1. Temp : The room is AC controlled at 70 degrees, tank runs open top and heater turns on during the day currently. I also run an ATO on the tank.
   
2. Hanging Pendant: We rent right now, that is a concern with a pendant, but not a major one....How is the AquaMedic hanging system?
   
3. Too much light with 150W: I have no plans for SPS in this tank, so it will be a softy/LPS/possible clam tank. My softies will all be on the bottom, and I plan to acclimate very slowly if I do get the 150W, any advice here?
