Decent heater for a 10g?

My 10 gallon usually sits around 78 degrees, but over the last week I've seen my temps dipping drastically, even with the heater light running. This is my 3rd heater in about 2 years for this tank, so I'm looking for something that will be a bit more reliable. Any suggestions?

your 3rd heater in two years? whoa. lucky one of those cheapy heaters didnt stick at a high temp and cook your tank. maybe you should look at getting a slightly more powerful heater as well... its possible your overworking your heater since you've blown a few.

Ive tried the Visi-Therms and Ebo Jagers... cant complain about either. The visi therm on my QT is 10 years old and still kicking.

I respectfully disagree. A bigger heater is more likely to cycle on and off and that's the most likely cause for failure. A small heater will have to stay on longer to raise the temperature. Once on, there really isn't any wear.

A bigger heater would result in more overheating should it stick on too.

True. I agree as well - makes sense. But we're not talking about jumping to a 100w heater.... we're talking about a 50w vs a 75w. Not a huge difference.

Wonder why he keeps blowing heaters.

Ebo Jager

I had a stealth heater recently and it boiled my tank to 98 degrees. Everything in my BC14 is gone. I work at a fish store and all we carry is the stealth heaters and every other one does good. The 75w that I got just didn't do its job so im swithing to the Ebo Jager.

In my opinion a pair of 25 watt heaters is all you need for a 10 gal tank. And by using the lower wattage heater's you reduce the risk of boiling everything in your tank. In the event that one of the heaters ever happens to stick in the {on} postion.

I only use the higher 100 watt heater's for mixing SW. Because they bring the mixed SW up to the display tank's temp. faster.

So far I've had very good success using a 100 watt tronic heater and ebo jager heaters.
