Darklyte24
So I got a acropora about a month ago. day time it pulls its polyps in, night it comes out. What do they need? more acintic light? feeding? how are yours doing? pics? mine is still pretty tan color, not brown not white. i have a new current T5-HO 96 watt light. hopefully it helps. glennr1978
Here's what I think you need. 1. probably more light 2. more flow 3.You need to have very stable parameters, and not just the basics. You need to have stable levels of Alk, Ca, and Mg. Link to comment
Darklyte24
well for the past month i got it i was using just the stock light 48 watts.. the new light is 96 watts. hopefully this will help. I was reading an article which said 5-10 wats per gallon. its pretty much at the top of the tank like said to, water flow is close to the nozzle. Do you have any? Link to comment
Urchinhead
Most likely a bit more indirect flow on it will help. Also you can add something like coral chili to feed it. If it is holding its original color you are most likely ok on lighting. If its going brown then you need more lighting or need to move it even higher in the tank. Link to comment
Pship
We need to know you CA, ALK, pH, DKH, SG, and temp. Sps generally loves a lot of flow, however it doesnt like to be blasted by direct current. Most experts say that a tank needs to be at least 1 yr matured/stable before SPS is added to a tank. However, to all his own many people add it months after the tank has established. Another thing to take into consideration may be your photoperiod. What is? And how was the Acropora acclimated into the tank? Oh also, I just noticed that you are using PC's I suspect that is your largest problem. You will not get any good color out of an acro with PC's maybe a standard Montipora Capriconis but that is about it. Link to comment
circusordie16
also, pulling its polyps in during the day is a natural behavior as it reduces the chances of predation. Link to comment
Darklyte24
CA is 520 mg/L ppm I think my Alk was a little low so I added a capfull of Reef Carbonate PH is around 8.3 or 8.4 SG is 1.025 tank is 14 months old Flow is indirect but I see particles flowing around it Link to comment
