PBUEHH
<String of expletives removed> I've been a bad boy... moving took ALOT longer then i thought, but this is my first big move out of my mom's place so now that i am on my own i pretty much know for next time.... Unfortunately it was my budding reef that suffered the consequences of my neglect. On my day off im going to bring em over to my new place whish isnt too far so it will be a short trip... the victims of the move were my hard working Snail Krew... murdered and eaten by the hermit crab gang... 'southsideres'... anyways one cerith made it and i think ive seen an astrea or two around... point being the two hermits gorged themselfves on about $30 in snails... all that in my bookshelf. Poor Man is like eden however and it kills me because i'm thinking about changing it to a mangrovey planted tank for some sea horses.... fill you guys in next time. Cheers Link to comment
PBUEHH
About the reef is by my house... about 10 minutes away, I'm going to be taking the lr out of poor man and making it an algae tank and when i can afford it, I'll ad some dwarf sea horses if i can find em. 6.6 is doing great... considering nothing much is in there, a lot of coralline algae, tons of pods, aptasia, cyno, some sponges and feather duster worms. i might take some lr out so i can add coral. PBUEHH
changing my mind again <Classic> im on a waiting list for a peacock mantis shrimp, the last one took six months to get a hold of, so hopefully i'll have boned up on some mantis knowledge. I'v only heard good things from people who wanted them ( ) plus the light in poor man is too weak, the corraline in there is growing but so slow, that i wouldnt want to subject a macro algea to death in darkness... its a really mellowed light in a tall tank, so im thinking it would be good for the nocternal cave dweller.... im even thinking up names for it. The bookself aquarium is going awesome... it must be made of pwnzer! anyways, initially i added too much live rock, so if i want to eventually add any corals, im thinking im gowing to be taking one or both of the larger pieces that are on the sides out.... problem is, ive grown attached to my live rock... some one needs to come over and smack me! Tell me, 'HEY DAMNIT! IT'S ONLY ROCK!' Link to comment
PBUEHH
i feel great and i feel bad. As reef keepers we must practise our hobby with responsability. At work i preach IYOR 08. yesterday was PROP, an every other month auction of corals by AZ FRAG members. Thanks to Buffulo Bunch, i snaged 4 of my favorite priced corals: free. 3 toadstool leathers, and a red monti cap. The 1.5x 1.5 inch sps frag was grown from a tank that uses PC lighting. I was over enthusiastic to hear, 'Who wants free corals?!' in the bar and drooled over my haul. Knowing the lighting requirements for sps are critical i now feel pangs of guilt durring my quest to keep 'a piece of the reef'. Simultaniuosly i want to trade it for some zoa frags and proclaim to all that not only will this lovely frag not brown out, but it shall thrive! I know it wont thrive, but maybe thats my guilt i cant tell right now. Im not asking for critisism, so if its not constructive, dont even post. I do take constructive berratment though.... :| I shall watch my new monti vigilantly, at the first sign of trouble i will attempt all to reverse the bad, but if my skills as a reefer and my tanks capacity fall short.... *pause* theres the guilt again, i see people are most sucessful when they learn from their faliures and excede their past expectation. Alas i am too seppereated within myself to take a stand either way. I wont post a pic becuase i lost the digital camera and im not posting anything i took with my cells camera. Cheers. PBUEHH
I FINALLY did it, I moved my tanks! i had the day off so i moved em out of my mom's house. Unfortunately the salt creep kinda messed up her custom wood cabinets, so the least I could do is scrub it all off. I gave Poorman and 6.6, 3" deep sand beds in anticipation for the mantis shrimp I'm going to get at the end of this month. Hopefully I can also have my 55 running so I can snag a few more then 2 Mushroom leathers already extending polyps not really caring, but the lights are off for the day so I'll have to check the Monti as soon as I get home. As I still don't have a digital camera, pics might have to wait another month when its my birthday, but by then I'll have something worth taking pictures of! Link to comment
PBUEHH
FRAG-O-WEEN was last Saturday (10-11) and a blast, there was a raffle in which i won, frag disks and purple up and an algea scraper i didn't win the acan lords like i wanted though, still fun. Bobbing for frags is where the money was at!, got 2 different montis, one is regular brown but with purple polyps, the other is solid purple except for new growth. I got another sps and i couldn't remember the name, but its dark teal with metallicy teal highlights and green polyps, mushrooms of all kinds, purple, splotchy green over brown and metallic blue. zoas with orange skirts, then a thin green ring, baby blue disk and a yellow mouth I wanted mostly zoas of all thinks but i got mostly shrooms and sps now. lastly i bough what i though was the prettiest mushroom i had ever seen for $5, then when i was going to put it on my new frag disk it turned out to be another sps!!! at first i was upset, but then i realised i had no idea what i had. it has ridges like my monties but i haven't seen the polyps, its dark blue with purple highlights and pink speckles. sorry i don't have any picks i'll have to pick up a camera soon as FRAG is home of the freeist nicest corals around and I may be getting my frags exclusively from my fellow hobbyists! PBUEHH
updates: dont make fun of my spelling its late... overdue water change and scrubbed the tank. Added rio 660 to 5g hex, i need to reposition it though, i found a new nem or new mushie, not sure, but the hex looks great. 6.6, eh, the polyethylene (i think) isn't acrylic and after 2 years of use is beginning to show ware. all but one aptasia is been devoured by Mr. Shrimpy, Kudos for him.// i'll proly remember everything else in the morning. PBUEHH
wow... long time ago. update, moving back in with mom and i have a tank limit, so i combined the two into one tank, luckily i have a 20L lying about. nothing special right now as the corals are pissed.... actually my big monti is in sad shape, some cualerpa got a hold of it and im doing my darnedest to keep it going, it might be a combination of things going wrong but its loosing a lot of color... i'll snag a camera real soon to show you what it looks like now... much better in terms of scale and perspective imo a lot easier to clean fer sure.
