psreefs
I am starting to have a green algae problem in my new 10g. I leave the lights on for 11 hours per day and am in the 10th day of my cycle. All parameters are good. Any suggestions? Should I add the CUC to try to help the problem? Link to comment

Did the person that sold it to you tell you it was well-cured? 2.) What actually are your parameters? 3.) Have you had any increase/spike/decrease with Ammonia or Nitrites? Link to comment

It is uncured. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...=157546&hl= 2. Ammonia 0, Nitrite .05, Nitrate 0, pH 8.3, temp 79ish, calcium 350ppm, alk normal, phosphate between 0 and .1 3. Ammonia spiked early within first 4 days or so of adding lr and has since subsided. Link to comment

DC84
You can take a toothbrush and scrub any algae you see off the rocks/glass...but DON'T take the rock out of the water and scrub the life out of it. The majority of people here say to use a siphon to siphon out the algae you scrubbed off, but I find this to be rather cumbersome. Instead, after I scrub the algae off I turn on one of my powerheads so the scrubbed algae is flying around the tank...then I take a small fish net and I "sweep" all the algae into the net (if you make figure 8 motions you can swish the water around some more so you can get the algae to come out from behind rocks). For me this method is very effective, and I get a hell lot more algae out of the tank than with siphoning. And after every major tank cleaning I change the filter floss. I wouldn't get overzealous though in removing your algae at this point, cuz I think it's pretty normal to get SOME algae growth. Link to comment

Yep, and in many cases it may just resolve itself. In response to when to add your CUC, wait until your nitrites hit 0 and stay there for a couple days, then you're good to go. It sounds like your tank is cycling relatively quickly, so depending on if nitrites have already spiked or not, you probably won't have to wait much longer. Link to comment
