jamesnmandy
Here's a little tip to balance everything out. GO to wal-mart and pick up a pack of those screwy flourescent light bulbs and replace the ones in your house with those, they run like at 18 watts compared to 60 or 120 or whatever your bulbs run at now. I haven't noticed a substantial difference and I run about 75 watts of pc lighting, 70 watts MH, 150250 watts of MH, tv's lights, and airconditoner 24-7. You can trim down your wattage per hour thing this way. as long as you dont mind yellow tinged nasty looking light...sure... when we bought our house in atlanta the entire house, even the outdoor flodlights were those type bulbs, take a while to get max brightness, yellow dingy light color....bah! not worth it to me, i actually removed every bulb in the house and replaced with those Philips bulbs that are bluish tinted and produce a pure white light, love every wasted penny of it actually and not ashamed Link to comment
greeneyes
I spent the money on the "blue" natural ones. I hated those yellow ass lights so bad. The blue cost more but well worth it. Link to comment

jm82792
The new ones are MUCH better Typically the brand names get full brightness in 45 seconds thats it. They have daylight ones not the corny yellow ones. Link to comment
Whacked
The pigtail CF bulbs are great. I have them in all fixtures in my apartment. I even gutted the stock hood and put them in for my FW planted tank. Took awhile to get used to the white/slightly blueish tint but now I cant stand the standard yellow. I found the bulbs at walmart, occasionally I see them at lowes or home depot. You want the GE brand marked DAYLIGHT. They are 6500K bulbs. Link to comment
coolwaters
i switched to LEDs so my power bill went down ;P Link to comment
Rocket
Kitchen is designer built with 12 flood lamps recessed into ceiling. The damn room would heat up quickly with all the 100w flood lamps we where running. And at parties, forget about it, everyone complained about the heat. yeah figure a space heater is 1500watts, and my kitchen produces 1200 watts... get the picture. Switched them all out for the CFL 100watt equivalent flood lamps running at 15 watts. Oh so much happier, and so much cooler. Not to mention the electricity bill was cut in half. Link to comment
FateX9
i got a killawatt meter and put it onto my tank because my roomate thought the price jump was because of my tank after i calculated the price theres no WAY my tank uses enough to up the electric bill by a noticeable amount it was ~$8 more but i also run oceanrunner pumps and 4 bulb t5 for 14 hours and 2x150w mh for only 4 hours Link to comment
phiber_optikx
Heres a way to figure out what your tank costs you in electricity on a monthly/yearly basis. That scared me for a second. It must have been a glitch but the first try it said my 29 gallon raised my electric bill by $90 a month Link to comment
