Twizted Bizkit
I've got a 55 gallon tank and stand that I'd really like to have at the foot of my bed as a reef tank, but I really don't like the idea of efficiently lighting one. I also rather like very shallow tanks anyway, so I figure why not disassemble the tank, shorten the side panels, and drill a couple holes in back for overflows, and silicone it back together? FUMARCO
sounds hard... how would you do that??? Link to comment
Twizted Bizkit
Well, I'm not saying it won't be tedius, but basically you just take the frames off, peal away the silicone, use a glass cutter to cut the panels, use a glass-safe drill bit for the holes, and make a frame to hold everything in place while the new silicone cures. The extra glass could even be used to construct the overflows. Assuming all that doesn't drive me crazy, I'll have a drilled 20-25 gallon tank that's 48"x12"x8" or 10". Link to comment
distantfire
I would sell the 55 and use the money to buy a new tank for the foot of your bed. Link to comment
oceanhighz
a 33 gallon long tank is 4 feet long, and one foot tall and wide I believe, that would be a very shallow tank that is easily lit. I love that footprint and when I have a house will surely be a tank I have. Link to comment
Daemonfly
Yeah, sell the 55g and just buy a 30/33/40g long. Way too much work to cut down a 55g properly, and no where near worth doing. Link to comment
wow_it_esploded
The 33 gallon long is my FAVORITE tank! Someone should start a thread! How 'bout you? lol John Link to comment
