joer3 Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I spotted this color in my aquarium that I've never noticed before. I like it. Is it coraline? If it is, how can I get it to populate other areas of my aquarium? Would it be too difficult with the dominate purple coraline?
sdunkin Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I have some too, but it gets overpowered by the purple.
tinyreef Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 yes, there's orange and a number of other colors, e.g. red, pink, green, blue, yellow, etc. there are some "bad" colors too, e.g. black & yellow. but usually they point to illness/dying of the coralline. i've read that sometimes the orange color is a "leaching effect" of iron from inside the rock or substrate. not sure what the chemical/mechanical processes are to create that though. and even if so, i don't believe it's a dangerous or problematic issue.
Mr. Fosi Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I bought a frag off Six a couple years ago and it came with several colors of coralline, including a bright orange. Didn't last long under my low-powered lighting though.
joer3 Posted May 19, 2008 Author Posted May 19, 2008 Any tips on getting it populated in other places in my aquarium? Or is it doomed due to the dominate purple algae?
sdunkin Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 My orange and a red colored coraline took off right after I put the tank together (within the first month or two), but now at 9 months is is almost totally covered up by the purple and teal that I have.
skydive Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I want my teal back I had a small area about the size of a Powerade cap that the purple took over. The best coraline I've seen so far.
fishwish Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I have a tank full of green coralline. It seems to be beating the purple at this time. From what I have been told purple coralline will eventually dominate.
