Not that I would put it in my 10g, but say in a 30g.

Can they be kept singly?

How agressive are they?

Would they bother an ocellaris or a royal gramma?

What is the average lifespan?

Some good tank mates?

They can kept in singles.I had one blue damsel inside.

They are agressive, but not as bad as DOTTYBACK and ROYAL GRAMMA(imo).

The damsel probably wont care about the ocellaris, but the ROYAL GRAMMA may pick on the new damsel.

Lifespan...who knows? They are the hardiest marine fish around.

I dont know of any good tank mates.

The yellow tail blue damsel was my first sw fish...sadly he was killed by a hitch hiker mantis shrimp one night...he got along well with my ocellaris and my tomato clown...

I had one as a starter fish and then added a ocellaris and the ocellaris ended up in the top corner of the tank with missing fins. :/

IMO they are very agressive and only get worse.

Think it could be kept with a watchman goby?

I didn't know the gramma was agressive. Just how agressive? Do you think it would bother a clown?

I have one. When it was bigger that my clowns it terrorized them to death. Since the female clown is nearly twice the damsel's size, it's a different story now. Some of the damsels aren't too bad, but kind depends on the fish. Watch it and if it gets bad, get rid of it!

Never get One! The are the worst fish around. If they are in 1st or bigger than the clown it will attack. Maybe not today or tomorrow but it will . Stay clear. People used to use them to cycle there tanks because it is so hard to kill one. NEVER!!! JMO

OK, I guess better to be safe than sorry so no damsel.

But what about a single chromis? Would a single reef chromis bother a clown? Would it bother a firefish?

Its a type of damsel fish but not nearly as aggressive. I had a single chromis in my 10 gallon when I had it up and mine was a nice fish. I took him back when I upgraded my tank because I wanted something different.

I've had a yellow-tail blue damsel and a false perc since day one and NEVER had one problem. As a matter of fact it's always a surprise to read all the negative comments about the damsel fish. It's clear mine likes it's cave and as long as the clown dosn't mess with it ( which the clown could care less ) everything's peachy.

I am a fan of chromis--I have a shoal of seven blue-green chromis (Chromis viridis), in my 135, and they stay together, don't bother anyone, yet hold their own (they live with wrasses, a triggerfish, a blenny, clowns, a tang, and a jaw). I have also kept them in nanos. I think they are the most peaceful, but there are other interesting relatively peaceful damsels. You might consider the following: a Bicolor Chromis (Chromis margaritifer) or a Blue Chromis (Chromis cyanea). Although not quite as hardy, the Purple Chromis (Chromis scotti) is cool, as is the Yellow Chromis (Chromis analis). Here is an article with some more info. Good luck and let us know what you get!

I have a yellow tail damsel ,a royal gramma and a clown placed in that order in a 30gl tank and all are fine. They are all happy and swimming well with each other . They were all in a 20gl then I moved them a couple of weeks ago. Will be 2 years with them in July.
