Ok just to let everyone know I'm really not a complete newbie, but I need advice. In the past...way past I had nano tanks, this was before nano-reef back when people said it couldn't be done. I had one tank set up with a condy and a tomato clown, I had this condy for about 7 years and kept upgrading his tank until I finally gave up and sold him back to the pet store.

ANYWAY...I lost all my tanks when a tornado came through and we were without power for a month. Broken hearted I just decided I couldn't start from scratch again. Well I had a friend call he had a 12 gallon nano, but it got busted, he didn't want to deal with it anymore. I could have all his livestock, if I could get them now. So I ran over there and rescued everyone. Took them home but the only thing I had to put them in was a 5.5gal.

Now I'm really not worried about the light right now, because the tank is in front of a big bay window so it's getting quite a bit of light. However this little Tank had a CF bulb in it made by Made in America. Does anyone know if there is a 50/50 bulb out there that might work in this fixture?

Also I now have a lot more different corals than I had before, some zoos, a cats paw, a spaghetti tree, xenia, star polyps, something that looks just like an anenome, but it's some kind of coral, and some other little guy that looks like an open brain but it's not, ( it's red if that helps) Since they are new to me I'm not really sure how to take care of them all, so any advice would be appreciated.

I was able to use the live rock and sand that he had, and I also used his water, I've been watching really closely but so far no spikes, I have been having a problem getting the ph up. So I've been adding a ph buffer, and calcium. It's slowly been creeping up so I can use a little help on that too.

Anyway I'll post some pics as soon as I can

Thanks

Ok I just figured out the anenome looking coral is a torch coral. I also have a toad stool coral. Can someone please tell me who can go next to who? I know the torch is aggressive, but I have to get these guys to get along until friday when I go get them a bigger tank

old member coming out!

i'd separate the torch from the others. depending on each coral's size, i'd gauge whether or not you had enough room. the last tank was a 12g and you're trying to wedge them into a 5g so it'll be tight depending on actual sizes.

i'd be ready to do waterchanges and carbon filtration. the move likely ticked them off but if they were healthy before i don't see a huge problem (with filtration/wc's) unless the torch stings someone.

as for the lighting, what kind of fixture and ballast? 50/50 CF is a very vague description. check hellolights (sponsor) for possible inexpensive setups.

sunlight is also good if you can control the temps.

welcome back!

Yeah I moved him off by himself (the torch I think someone already stung my cats paw so I moved him too. So far I'm doing ok with the temps and params are still good so I'm watching hoping for the best prepared for the worst. I need to take a pic and let yal give me on suggestions on where to place each of my critters. I also have a little bitty clown in there, will the torch sting him?

I think the fixture is just a standard screw in like comes in wiht the little 5 gal. I was asking about the 50/50 cause I saw one for a 12 gal at the pet store but I can't remember who sold it. It was for use in the eclipse 12 gal saltwater though. But I'll look again I'm goign to run get at least a 12 gal tomorrow anyway. any suggestions out there? I'm thinking I need a 55gal too, now I want an octopus...lol Lord this hobby is addictive! I got to thinking if I get a 12 for the stuff I have now, then I can take the 5 and use it for ponies, get a 55 for an octo that should hold me for a while! Well until the corals get bigger, they of course I'll need to upgrade to 100 gal or so.....sigh!

i doubt the torch will give the clown any grief. they can host the clown but that usually doesn't turn out well for the torch actually, since it's not a natural host.

octopus is a whooooole different game. check www.tonmo.com for better info.

i believe you're right, someone nowadays does sell a screw-in 50/50 CF (aka PC), not sure what the intensity/strength/wattage is though. although i'd say say your money and either opt for a prettier galaxy light 13W PC.

or bite the bullet and opt for a 2x32W fixture for the 5g. they're not too pricey really. you could also probably get (2) 1x32W fixtures even cheaper than the set. hth
