So both the Nikon D80 and the Cannon XSI cost exactly the same at the store and I am trying to figure out which one would end up being the better camera. They were both very nice cameras but which one has more options in terms of lenses? I guess if you guys could give me some opinions if you have used either one. The guy at the store was really trying to get me to buy the D80. Thanks

the only thing the D80 got over the XSi is that its a larger body camera. other then that I would say the XSi pretty much trumps it in everything else. IQ, lower noise at Higher ISO, faster AF, live view if you do macro work its useful

the xsi has live view? man i wish i didnt get my camera last year!

what id do is go to the store and pick them both up

which ever one feels more comfortable in your hands is the one to get

theyre both good cameras, its the person operating the camera that really matters

i personally like the feel of a bigger camera in my hands

Does the D80 have the ultrasonic sensor cleaner thingy?

I have a D80 and I love it. I am a Nikon person through and through so no matter what anyone says, Nikon is the best...lol

Seriously though. If you can get your hands on both, see which one feels the best to you. I too personally like a bigger camera. Feels less like a toy. Also, if interested I might be selling my D80 body with battery grip and 4GB SD card. Less than 3000 clicks on the clock.

I am also Nikon

normally I would say that live view is for noobs, but when shooting macro its clutch and for most aquarium people, macros are what you want...so I can't argue there

I think you'll have equal lens opportunities

really, this is no different than ford vs chevy

SWN and I will swear that Nikon is better

05 and Jere will swear that Canon is better

to make a blatantly obvious point in opposition to myself, I would say "but 05 and Jere are pros and they use Canon"

so I guess you can draw your own conclusions, lol

IMO, when the cameras are similar, handling it will be your most important thing, you need to go touch them and hold them

when I was choosing between canon and nikon for my camera, I held the canon and knew instantly that I didnt like it, the grip was terrible FOR ME, the Nikon grip was great FOR ME

Ugh, Canon and Nikon are both great, there is no point in comparing.

I dont think so, I think that's only on the D300

WTF, didn't you just get it?

Thanks everyone for the responses. I tried them both out in the store and I really like both of them. haha. That is why I couldn't make up my mind. I think I will go with the XSi. I can't really go wrong with either one though.

No, the D80 does not have sensor cleaning ability.

lol...yeah, a few weeks ago. Awesome camera but I am thinking about getting a D200. If the D80 doesn't sell, no biggie, I am very happy with it. I am not really actively trying to sell but whenever a thread like this comes up I just throw it out there :P

I know how you feel, I went to a camera expo on Saturday and handled and fooled around with a D300 and I wish I had one so bad

they were having 10% off too, so it was so tempting 1799 - 180 = not so bad

how much are used D200s going for?

Posted

you can find D200's for around 800 or so

Yeah, the D200 is anywhere from $750 (good deal) up to $1200 (not a good deal) with $800-850 being about average. Theres a couple in the $700-800 range on the cafe now but I need to sell the D80 first.

Take the plunge....you won't regret it.

I just got one and so far, it's incredible. It's producing some very sharp iimages. I can't wait until football season!

My biggest beef with Nikon has been the reluctance to address the noise issue. Well, they finally did and in a big way!

I haven't got a chance to try any macro shots of my tank yet, but I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
