the pictures arent that great. had to use my phone - sorry. in the past week ive had tissue loss on this piece and it seems to be accelerating. the leading edge of has what appears to be larger than normal white polyps. its been working its way from the bottom of the coral and going upwards. anyone have any ideas or knowledge with this?

water parameters all check out. only exception is temp fluctuations due to the spring weather here in chicago. 50 one day and 70+ the next, which causes temp swings in the tank.

How long have you had it?

Maybe its getting used to your light?

Try moving it lower for a week and then moving it back up slowly in the course of a month??

just throwing things out there, temp swings in any case are bad for any reef.

the key is consistency.

hope this helps, GL!!

I would say temp flutuation maybe threw it into shock. A lot of my acropora seemed to have bit the big one due to a shotty air conditioner problem. Temps down here get well into the 80's and 90's. Luckily all my softies made it through.

'all water parameters are in check' as i stated in the original post. the piece has been in tank now for 2 months if memory serves, maybe 3. it has been growing nicely since i got it. all the branches have continued to grow and there are the beginnings of new ones.

Check closely at the 'larger white polyps'. If you have added anything to your tank in the last 30 days, you could have gotten some nudibranch eggs that are just now hatching and seeking out their food source. They are very tiny at first so look very close.
