Hey Guys,

Thought I would post the first pictures of my tank, let me know what you think of the rockwork, I'm a little unsure about it.

Also attaching another couple of pics as wanted your opinionon this algae.. The tank is nearly 4 weeks into the cycle and last week (Third week) all the parameters were good (checked at LFS), the tank had been through the green algae phase, closely followed by the Brown (Diatom) algae, then the Diatom disappeared and it looked like the tank had fully cycled. So I added a CUC (see my sig for full inventory). But this week the green Algae has been making a comeback, the Diatoms have all died off but the green stuff is coming back, including hair algae which I did not have before (though this is very minor).

Ammonia and Nitrites are all on 0

Nitrate 25

Here is the first pic of the normal green algae:

And here is a pic of another LR i bought which was purple and covered in a nice purple grassy stuff(presumably type of algae) but this stuff has now been green for the last two weeks and shown no sign of turning back to the original short puply grass it was before..

Let me know if you have any nsuggestions... also during the cycle the light was limited to 6 hours per day and that has been extended to 10 now.. could that be causing the resurgent bloom?

Are you sure that's not green hair alge?

If you mean the stuff on the purple rock, It may well be green hair algae, it was a short purple grassy growth before..but the point is the purple agaejsut turned green, it had not spread elsewhere in the tank. In the rest of the tank and other rocks at first I got abit of green slime, then the diatoms. But now the green slimey stuff is making an appearance again.

Your nitrates are a bit high and that is probably part of the problem. Do some water changes and try to get as close to zero as you can. Maybe add some macro one of the rear chambers. Did you remove the tubes, bioballs and sponge from the filter?

Yes, I removed all the filter media and replaced with Rowaphos Sock, Sephorax Ceramic rings (I know the latter is frowned up by some users but a mate has been using it with no probs for a year and reputable LFS recommended it), then live rock rubble in middle chamber.

Thanks for the advice, will get some water changes done..

LR rubble is debatable too. Just another thing to trap waste and create problems. The amount of rubble is really too small IMO to add enough benefit to be worth the hassle. Just IMO.

Ok, by rubble I mean fist sized lumps of LR not lots of really small stones or pebbles but thanks for your imput.. what would you use in the back chambers apart from LR?

IMO I would ditch the rubble. Really all you need is a skimmer and sponges in the first chamber, chaeto and light on reverse timer in seccond, and heater and possibly ATO or Ph probe in third. Keep the rock in the tank where it can be cleaned.
