Guest Lylahippie Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 You know those upside down cool arches people make with there Live rock...how do they do that!? And... How would I propogate a mushroom that is beginning to cover up other coral? Do I just trim it around a circle? or cut it in half? Omg Im so confused
CarterNichols Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 ha, that was a quick bump.. i don't know what an upside down arch is, because arches are a set thing, but basically you put two rocks then one on top. Sometimes LR has natural arches. and i can't answer the coral question, PM "the propograter"

krankykris Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 you can slice the mushroom off that rock, but a new one will grow there. if you pry some of the rock up, you may be able to move the shroom without needing to prune it.
Chrissy Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 You have to pick live rock pieces that will fit together to do it. I messed with my live rock/changed/took out pieces/added new pieces to try and get one. I think in all we bought 90lbs(maybe more) of live rock to come up with this... (and the rest went in my husbands tank, plus another tank that has nothing but rock and sand)

Oh didnt know I could do a complete slice. THANKS. so after it is sliced, I just glue it to a rock or something? you can slice the mushroom off that rock, but a new one will grow there. if you pry some of the rock up, you may be able to move the shroom without needing to prune it. OMG GORGEOUS... I am sending you a PM
CarterNichols Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Lots of times if you order LR online you can request pieces that will allow you to build arches.. as well if you buy your LR locally build your aquascape in the store first then take it home
modeldoctor Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 You can use pvc piping to make the framework for the arch. You then can use a masonry bit to drill holes in the live rock being careful not to shatter part of the rock. The LR will be fine if you keep it moist with wet towels or spraying it. You can then use zipties to fasten the rock to the pvc pipe. Algae will grow over the zipties in time and you won't see them. Just make sure the pvc pipe has a solid base and that there is plenty of LR to keep the whole thing from toppling. It's a lot of work but makes for one incredible aquascape.
herranton Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Mushrooms are almost impossible to kill. Some people put them into a blender to cut them up into little pieces, then dump the mushroom smoothie into a tank. <- thats the abridged version, so yes you can just slice 'em up The whole story: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=111110
