TheOtherDay
Oops Sorry In the first picture we added a overflow box and to the left and right of the box are the return heads. The filter is a CPR-192Y Mag 7 Simple Heater IceCap HQI/PF Pendant (on its way) 1 Gatoraid bottle for skimmer collection Link to comment
dchisenh
That looks awesome so far! How many gallons will it hold? What do you plan on doing with it/keeping in it? -Dan Link to comment
NaNO ReeFiN
Is that the oceanic tanks? I was thinking about using one of these tanks as a reef.. what kind of lighting did you use for this little guy? Link to comment
TheOtherDay
Not sure what I will be keeping yet, have plenty of time to decide Yes thats one of ceanic's tanks, my friend had the idea to drill it all and use the in tank returns, for many reasons, so the tank can be flat on the wall, so their is only 1 pump, and to cut down on any extra heat in the tank. Also less maint only 1 pump to clean. The "T" fitting under the tank will be replaced by a mechanical pulser that will pulse water randomly to the two return pipes. As far as lighting, it was hard because the tank its only 20.5 wide, so I finally decided on an IceCap Pendant, with 1 halide bulb and 2 power compacts in it. The biggest issue was the tank stand has such little space in it, CPR had the best option for it, as you can see the sump/wetdry fits just perfectly. Plus it had the built in skimmer, less plumbing, the better I say Link to comment
TheOtherDay
Also there is an APC Uninteruptable power supply connected to the tank (pump, heater) which should give the tank about 20 min of battery life should the power go out. Link to comment
J-Bass
Where'd you get the overflow box from? Wetdryfilter? I was planning on just a simple pvc standpipe for my cube but it would look much nicer with a corner or center box overflow. Link to comment
SLOreefer
what size is that? 30? what are the dimensions? Link to comment
TheOtherDay
Aprrox 30 gal 20.5x18x18.5 The overflow box was custom made, if you want one, I can have my friend make you one, not sure what he will charge for it, but it will fit perfectly. Its 8x6x4 Link to comment
kimura
Very nice tank indeed:) I too was looking to get that same exact tank and add an overflow box towards the center. I like the two return pipes and the SQUID idea. I had planned on using a 14k MH over so that I don't have to use PC's. An just have a sump with a protein skimmer. Great job! One last question. Did you drill the tank or did you order it that way from Oceanic? Link to comment
TheOtherDay
I had a friend drill the tank, I called Oceanic at the time and they said they didn't offer it drilled, but if it was drilled, it would void the warrenty.. (Like they even had to say that) Actually, I read reviews on the squid and it seems like that is not the best option, so I am looking for another. Any suggestions? Link to comment
3twenty5
A SCWD in that tank will rock, put a MAG 9.5 on it and you will be set, the SCWD gets alot of bad press..its been working great in my tank..u just need to read thru teh bull and see if it will work in your application which I beleive it will Link to comment
TheOtherDay
I don't think I can fit a mag9.5 in my sump. The CPRs sump area is 4" wide and roughly 8 1/2" long. Link to comment
TheOtherDay
Update on the tank It's now full of water, and about 16lbs of un-cured rock. Curing the rock, and enjoying the HORRID stink and the milk like water appearance I also fixed the bubble problem with the CPR filter and now its running great! Link to comment
TheOtherDay
Here is a bad picture (bad camera) of the tank, with water Halide Lighting, and some base rock in the tank thus far Link to comment
J-Bass
What size metal halide are you running? 150 or 250hqi? 175 or 250 mogul? Link to comment
ralegen
TheOtherDay, What kind of rock is that? ~So here's a newbie question for everyone: 1. When we lay down rock, it's a good idea to use that plastic grid because it'll help hold the rocks at certain angles. True of false? 2. Most reefers like to use it only because it's useful; however, it's not widely used. True or false? Thanks everyone in advance. Link to comment
Patton
Looks like you drilled the bottom of the tank. Cool. I also have a Oceanic cube and I was planning on drilling for a overflow but was worried the bottom glass was tempered. Most tanks are tempered on the bottom. Please confirm this . Link to comment
geegomez
I just drilled my Oceanic 30g cube high on the back. 2 1 inch holes. my old 10g will not fit under the cabinet, what are you guys using as a sump? and lighting? thanks, gilbert gomez geegomez@yahoo.com Link to comment
ocellaris
TheOtherDay, Looks great. Got a 30g Oceanic as well, have some questions: 1) Are you using spraybars for the returns? 2) Did you drill through the bottom for all three connections?... as well as the stand? 3) Can you post pics of the connections? Thanks! -ML Link to comment
