ununknown
Ok, thanks prof, Oh and about my bloomers, I wear gray 'bloomers' only. Quote Link to comment
scottyreef
+1 very well said. and to add everyone starts some where my first experince in the fish world was working a a fountian, pond, birdbath store when i was 16. so good luck Despite my better judgement after reading some of your posts here is my advice: Check out the antiquated but tried and true local newspaper. I imagine there may may be a job in there for a teenager. Don't call. Show up in person and ask to talk with the manager. Be confident and convince them that is your job they are advertising. Wear a tie. Say "Yes, Sir" and "No, Sir". Be polite. If you need a haircut, get one. Make sure your pants don't ride so low that they show off your Spongebob Squarepants bloomers. Turn your cell phone off. If you have metal stuck in your face, take it out for the interview. Don't say "uh". Speak clearly and don't use slang. Remember, a little initiative goes a long way. -Prof Quote Link to comment

Those things were awesome! They had a two story house and they would run up the stairs and jump off the top balcony down to the living room. Lieutenant Daaaaan, ice creeeaaaaam! Quote Link to comment
Cubby23
I have worked at the local nursery for the past three years. It is nice he cashes my checks there and it is only around the corner. This summer I'm instructing sailing. Doing some private lessons for $100 an hour. I also do most of the landscaping around the house for my parents instead of them calling somebody in. Ahh had to plant 6 18" balled euonymous in soil will 4" roots, not fun at all. But I'm only sixteen so I'm really happy I can afford a hobby like this along with others like Nikes and my computer. printerdown01
I am a manager for REI. I know it is a rough job. I have to play with great camp gear, climbing equipment, and mountaineering stuff. Aside from having the expensive hobby of reefing, thanks to my "day job" I have managed to pick up mountain biking (not cheap), road biking (more expensive than mountain biking), rock climbing (thought this one was going to be cheap-ish, I was wrong ), SCUBA diving (ok so this one wasn't because of REI, but I just wanted to give everyone a picture of just how fast my money can go down the drain), and then most expensive of them all ice climbing (waterfall not alpine -if there are any other ice climbers out there)... I think I am the only person I know who should probably get a job to pay for their job... But I can truly say that I LOVE what I do. And I make decent enough money that it covers all of my hobbies. Plus, they did pay to move me to Monterey! I have moved a few times with them, but I don't know if they will convince me to leave this place any time soon! I can actually see the ocean from my apartment balcony and living room, and I am less than a mile from my favorite dive beach on the west coast. My job rocks! I worked at an EMS for a while, pretty cool job, the customers are usually a good bunch. the discount was AWESOME. I am forced to work retail during the winter, no pools to clean or rattlenakes to track. My manager was a total goober though, so I quietly quit and now I make lattes in the winter. Who knows what I'll do next winter. Maybe I'll be a teacher. Quote Link to comment

printerdown01
Kate, My GF is actually on the East Coast teaching women's boot fitting to different EMSs up and down the coast. I'm sorry you had a "goober" manager -I promise I am not one of those! TheCuban, Sorry I don't have any super discount codes, LOL... However, if you have any questions feel free to PM me and I will totally give you my phone # or an email... I can give you more info on gear (including tents) than you can ever imagine! I am one of those gear geeks that can give you the denier of the fabric used in the tent... Not because I am a true gear geek, but rather that it is simply an occupational hazard, LOL. airangel
Health Information Specialist aka Medical Records Coder hospital based, boring but pays the bills & my many hobbies (but barely). In my previous life, I was a medical laboratory technician trained in human medicine but ended up working for an animal diagnostic laboratory (the place your vet sends the samples to). I've been lucky that for the past 4.5 yrs I've been able to work from home which makes tolerating the job a wee bit easier when you can literally just roll outta bed & start working. I bet you're not, most people who work for places like that are really laid back cool people....one of the reasons I wanted to work there, I knew some people already and liked them, and I figured it would be awesome to learn about all that gear, and help people pick out what they need. Not this guy. Stoned out of his mind half the time, faking hours, dealing pot, never doing any actual work, letting his loser buddies steal stuff from the store, throwing everyone under the bus all the time with schedules or when the DM needed a culprit for stolen stuff, that sort of thing. It was just depressing to work there. I used to also do nature walks, and GPS instruction because I'd taken a semester on GPS usage and arcview in college, it was cool teaching people to use them. I heard they've asked him to leave....maybe I'll go back when he's gone....but I actually like making coffee so maybe not....I get to sit around and eat cake and read the paper most of the time....
