fishybadmike
Hello fishybadmike. Where do you want to go to medical school? You should really consider applying to Creighton University. I am here for undergraduate currently (I am from Idaho as well), and we have very good connections with Idaho universities. In fact, many of our dental students study at Idaho State for their first year, then come here. I haven't really looked into Creighton at all yet. But that's good to know...I'll look into it. Right now, U of Washington is my top choice. But, I have a feeling that I'll be at the mercy of the admissions committees and I'll end up going to whoever will take me. lol. As long as I get accepted somewhere I'll be happy. Hopefully it doesn't work out that way though haha. Quote Link to comment
veshman
There's a lot of latitude in that description. Some people write S/W to someone else' specifications and others start with a vague description, figure out how to make something work and develop the S/W to do so. Some times the political problems are as significant as the technical ones. Often times there is a requirement for domain knowledge as well as knowing how to code. Someone who can master all of that can command a commensurate fee. I write S/W on contract and have worked for several firms in Chicago in both the financial industry (trading) and manufacturing (embedded systems.) I don't have a 1000g tank. Interesting thread. There's an incredible variety of interesting jobs represented. (And for those of you still in school, why are you reading this instead of doing your homework!?!) -hank I always wondered why companies like Blizzard (WOW - don't play, but have friends who do) hired so many people. I <3 being a naive kid though! But I dunno... comp sci is really looking like a good prospect. I'm learning some basic Java, and it's much more interesting than the stereotype makes it out to be... plus software designers will apparently be in demand by the time I get out of college (according to my comp sci teacher...) HankB
But I dunno... comp sci is really looking like a good prospect. I'm learning some basic Java, and it's much more interesting than the stereotype makes it out to be... plus software designers will apparently be in demand by the time I get out of college (according to my comp sci teacher...) Good luck! Both of my sons graduated with Comp Sci degrees from UIUC. The first got out when the Internet bubble burst and companies were withdrawing offers and asking for their hiring bonuses back. It was about a year before he found work. He's in support and is still happy doing that. Younger son graduated about a year ago and got a great job near downtown Chicago. He's doing well enough to be comfortable with an apartment just north of the River near Rush street. He finished an MS with a fairly high GP so that helped. My philosophy is to choose what you like, not what you think will pay. You may be doing it for the rest of your life (*) so you might as well enjoy it. One way or another you'll make enough to get by if it's not a lucrative field. If you choose something you don't like, you won't have fun, won't do well at it and probably won't make the big bucks anyway. I think some people just get a job that pays the bills and their life focus is outside of work. I can't comment about that because I can't do something that I don't really enjoy. (*) Lots of people decide to do something entirely different, so not everyone does the same thing for the rest of their life. So make the best decision you can, but don't obsess about it because you can always change your mind later. (This is not a license to change your major 3 years in and become a perpetual student. That is not a career!) [/philosophy] -hank Quote Link to comment

buckeyes2k7
I graduated from ITT Tech in december of this year with my associate in applied science..basically a multimedia degree. 1 month before graduation, my buddy and I started our own automobile detail company. Business is better now that it is getting warmer here in ohio (finally), but at least I always will have two things to fall back on if one or the other doesn't work out. Quote Link to comment
intheb0x
well heres my quick story im 22 i graduated highschool but never went on to college just was not the thing for me, i didnt like school what so ever so i could not bare the thought of MORE school. anyways ive always had a job since i been 14, started with being a golf caddy for a couple years then when i turned 16 i got a job at a taco bell (lol), was there for a year or so then i quit and got a management position at a chicago style hot dog place (lol again) it was on and off at this place all while going to school. then i got into home remodeling for about 6 months after that i got a job at a buisness interiors place doing large shelving and display stands for like pick n save and ######. was there for sometime. i also worked as a installer for time warner cable for about a year..after being there for awhile i got into usps and now im a contractor for usps (united states post office). its ok and it pays the bills and buys the pills (lol joke) anyways ive had my own place for sometime, own really nice car and the best of all 2 great reef tanks. i feel as im doing pretty decent for my age compared to most of my friends who still live at home with mommy and daddy. i just hated the thought of being a broke college kid.
