Reef Chicks
What wattage heater should I use for a 2.5 gallon and a 3 gallon pico? Since they are so small they seem to over-heat quickly but if I don't have one on, the temps have dropped into the low 70's. They're very hard to maintain! Any recommendations on wttage and/or brands would be great! Link to comment
StevieT
do they make a 25W heater?? i would think that is all you need. I use a 50W heater in my water change bucket, that is around 4 gallons of water. Link to comment
el fabuloso
Hydor makes a 25W heater. I have a 50W heater in my pico though and it does a great job at keeping the temperature even with very little fluctuation. Link to comment
benjad
Hydor makes a 25W heater. I have a 50W heater in my pico though and it does a great job at keeping the temperature even with very little fluctuation. Currently running a 50w tetra submersible Link. It is small enought to fit in my 2.5G mini-bow. It is not adjustable, and is factory set at 78 ( +- 2 .. so 76-80). This might seem like overkill, but this is winter, and house gets down to 65 overnight. Have considered running lights at night to supplement heating. For me right now, temperature control is hard in the pico. I am ranging from 76 (cold night) to 82 (daytime with lights on), and that is too big a swing. Link to comment
Reef Chicks
benjad - you are having the same problem as me and I think its because we are usinghe sametype of heater, which are not adjustable. I have realy high temps but I am in Florida and its hot here in the winter (80's today). I just came frm Petsmart & I didn't find the Finnex, which is what I think I want. I have to go to Miami this weekend so hopefully I can find it there. Thanks everone for your help! Link to comment
Daladae
I have a 2.5 minibow with a 50w Jager. My temp stays right at 80. Link to comment
kreegan
I use a Visi-therm Stealth 25w in my Tom Deco 3 pico. It's a rock. My temp has never varied from 78F. Rich;) Link to comment
benjad
I think I am going to rip the tetra heater open, and see if there is an adjustment screw under the cap. If I set it at 80, it can reduce the daily swing by at least 2 degrees. Link to comment
Reef Chicks
benjad - for the $ it might be worth it, but wouldn't it leak later if you tore it open? kreegan - yeah, I might look into those. I have one in my BC29 and it works pretty well too. Link to comment
Daemonfly
I <3 the Hagen 25w Thermals. Short & small. They don't have numbers on the dial though, so you do have to slowly adjust it in the beginning. Link to comment
KoolSalt
I use to have a 3g. guppy only tank and purchased the smallest heater at Wal-Mart for it. The one w/out any adjustment and similar to the one posted but different name brand and color. Wal-Mart sells them for pretty cheap 8-12, dont remembered. kept my 3 gal stable for years 76-80. Hope this information will help. Link to comment
gtriever
I've used the Azoo Titanium 50W in everything from 2.5 to 12 gallons. A bit pricey, but well worth it, IME. Link to comment
