mferrufino
Hey guys and thanks for all the Information i have been given. My question is : I have a 29 Gal AGA setup. Nothing special, i am running a Fluval (that i clean Religiously) with Phosban and Purigen. I have a Aquaclear 70 with Chemi-Pure and I have two powerheads. A aquaclear 70(400gph) and a 50(270). A total of 670 gph. I have diatoms but its a new tank. 5 1/2 weeks old. My CUC right now is 1 red leg Hermit, 3 Nassarius and 3 cerith snails and 1 astrea. My concern is: 1. Is this too strong of a current for the CUC? 2. Is it overkill(gph), because i dont plan on getting corals yet (no money for a good light) 3. Should i get more Inverts cause no-one is eating the brown algae 4. How much more CUC should i add? Need your advice Seniors. And thank you MF P.s. Its a bare bottom(PH 8.0) and if its enough how should i position the powerheads? Link to comment

Its a bare bottom(PH 8.0) and if its enough how should i position the powerheads? all those clean-up crew come from the ocean, and reefs get hammered with waves all day long. you only have just over 20x turnover (i've got about 900 gph in a 20 gallon, and i wouldn't be bothered if i had more), and adding more wouldn't hurt, especially if you don't have a sandbed to kick around. 1 astrea snail in a 29 isn't going to do a thing, either. i have 20 in my 20 gallon, as well as 20 blue leg hermits. mferrufino
Hey thanks Pets_Unlimit. I have heard that astrea are no good for diatoms. I got a lot at the bottom and some hair like stuff on the fiji rock. What invert could i use that will help with the hair on the Rock. Mind you its only on little patches. Link to comment

Mind you its only on little patches. if it's hair algae that you are referring to then either a mithrax (emerald) crab or a halloween hermit crab will do the trick. if you overload your tank with a CUC then the worst that will happen is that the excess cleaners will die off until their numbers and the waste in the tank make an equilibrium. hope i helped. good luck! IME astreas destroy diatom algae. as for the hair algae, scarlett hermits (possible the red leg you referred to?) will eat it very readily, but you won't need many as they are almost strictly herbivorous and will not last long when the run out of algae or are not properly supplemented. same for emerald crabs.
