bamaboy333
The tank is on the way and i have ordered most of what other stuff i need, but no skimmer. My LFS guy said to try the stock skimmer, it may be good enough or simply need a prop change. Any thoughts? I also got the Koralia 1 and am going to run the stock pump as well. good decision, or need to replace the stock pump as well (maybe a Maxijet1200)? Link to comment
airangel
Stock skimmer? Prowland ..you beat me to it, I was about to type the same thing!!! Bamaboy...I just switched out to a MJ1200. I also bought the Koralia Nano but have yet to hook it up. Working on eggcrate filter shelving project currently. Link to comment
bamaboy333
Came out wrong. I have heard they are not needed on a nano as much, that the live rock in the tank and LR rubble in the back will be sufficient. Should I get a nano skimmer of some kind, or go with that? Also what about a power head to mix salt for water changes? Link to comment

Some use them, most seem not to. I'm using purigen/chemipure, walmart foam stuffing from craft section and working on building egg crate jobbie to hold them. Also was suggested to close off all the grates but the top one. I have a Fission skimmer from Current (It came with the tank on eBay auction), heard its not good, I'm gonna eBay it (NIB). bamaboy333
Well I am considering the skimmer, although the website says it comes with a surface skimmer. I checked out the pump which come with the tank and it claims to give 290gph, and a maxijet 1200 is only 295gph, so is it THAT much better. Why spend the money for 5 more ya know? Link to comment
knoxvegas
The reason most people switch out the stock pump for some replacement (MJ1200, MJ900, etc) is that the stock pump puts out a lot of heat, and is not that trustworthy either. Link to comment
proraptor2
Not to mention the stock pump runs at approx 40 watts while the MJ 1200 runs at 20 watts Link to comment
airangel
I just switched out to the MJ1200 and I notice the extra 5gph. I asked same thing and reason I switched was the wattage. I just ordered a loc line fitting since the flow I have now is way more than it was before, or so it seems, so I want to divert it. I also bought MJ900 for my JBJ 12g Nano Cube (set up now as planted FW tank) for the wattage difference. Link to comment
