I am in the planning stages of my fuge aswell. Link to comment
mattfox27
Is this going to be connected to a already running tank? If so i would not use the sand and just use LR rubble. I just started a fuge and i was going to use sand but everyone said not to becasue it was cause the tank to recycle. Also i would be messy and doesn't really do anything, so i bought 2lbs of LR rubble and it seems a lot better, les messy and more places for stuff to hide. Link to comment
dtfleming
You dont need the mud, sand is fine, LRR if you want but dont have too and macro algae and a light. How big of fuge? If its a HOB filter fuge you dont need any snails. Link to comment
plankton99
it is a 10 gallon sump/fuge from cadlights. Why is fiji mud not a good idea. also every pic i see of fugiums have sand. So exactly why is sand so bad? Link to comment
BibleSue
My research has been showing that sand benefits. Mvite thought removing his caused problems from what I remember. I will be putting sand as well as LR not rubble in mine. I am putting mine on my prop tank & need the LR for a stable system-will only have frags in the main tank. Link to comment
scott45acp
I am also setting my fuge. I was thinking of 4 inches of fuji mud to give the anaerobic bacteria a place to live. I do not have a deep sand bed in the display tank. I can not by fiji mud locally and i am afraid it would freeze in shipping. If it would freeze would it kill the bacteria that is already in it. or is this a non issue this is the brand I was looking at http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...tt=mud&Np=1 Link to comment
holdorf333
Just started mine. I took my little 2.5g that I was using to grow out pods and chaeto, and transfered it to the CPR. A little rubble, 2 baseball-sized pieces of LR, big ol' chaeto ball, and the water. We'll see how it turns out. Link to comment
