rhunter513
Sorry if this topic has already been exhusted and beaten to death. I've searched the forum but can't find any clear answers. I have a 24g nanocube DX with stock hood and lighting. I am trying to figure out if there any protein skimmers out there currently (not including the sapphire skimmer that is no longer available) that will fit into a rear filter chamber with the hood/lid closed. I have already tried the oceanic biocube skimmer but it would not work. It fit in the read chamber but the water level back there needed to be way to low for the collection cup to stay in place. And given all the bad reviews, I am not going to bother trying the fission nano skimmer. The TUNZE nano skimmer looks promising but might not fit. Does anyone use the TUNZE nano skimmer in the rear chamber with the lid closed, did you mod the collection cup or the hood so it will fit? Any help would be much appreciated - links, DIY, etc. Thanks! Link to comment

NoMSG
I'm interested, too. I've been looking at various vendors who're linked directly from here and so far nothing significant has been found. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this topic. I'm also planning to stop by some LFS to ask about this exact problem. Bump! Link to comment
121a
um, did you measure it? I think it will fit into the chambers but not with the lid closed so you will have to cut a hole in the canopy. Link to comment
FyrFighter2004
It measures under 14" if I remember correctly, it can be submeresed up to 8". Im not by my tank but Im almost sure that It will "fit" in the middle chamber w/ the lid closed. The only thing im not sure about is how it would mount back there and whether it will work well or not. Link to comment

I then went back to using my CPR backpack. From what I remember the collection cup had to remain above the water line. I don't believe that one could be used with your lid on...though I could be wrong. I ended up selling the skimmer for $75. I really wanted it to work. I've always been a fan of TUNZE products. I have one of there 6025 power heads. Love it! Mary Link to comment
Daveyboi
I have one on my 24 NanoCube and it doesn't fit correctly in the chambers at all. It won't work with the lid closed too. I have mine open toped and in the main display. It blends perfectly with the black background and skims excellently. Dave Link to comment

I have mine open toped and in the main display. It blends perfectly with the black background and skims excellently. Dave For mine to fit in my BC14 I had to use a dremel, and cut the mounting blocks off the end of the skimmer. It barely fit when I did it that way, but because it's snug, I could adjust the height and it skims perfectly. I have a sunpod with a diy top, so I never had issues with it fitting under the canopy, however, I believe that it would fit under the hood, if you cut the plastic rim of the tank with a dremel. For the larger tanks, there is a mounting rail, not sure if it will fit, it makes the skimmer around 1/2-3/4" longer, I have it really snug, so verticle adjustments were easy, if your's wont fit with the rail, and its too sloppy in the chamber to adjust the height then all you would need to do is either make an acrylic "table'" for it to stand on, or get a short pvc pipe, and trim it accordingly. borjam
I bought one just to try, and the collection cup is too big to fit inside the back chamber. However, I contacted Tunze suggesting them to release a version with a smaller cup, and to my surprise they answered that they have received some requests for it, so they can replace it at no cost. I haven't sent it back yet, but I will report how it works. I have a JBJ 24g. I'm in Spain, so it's quite handy for me to mail it to Germany. Link to comment

Please let us know how it fits in the rear chambers. I'm also very interested to hear how this fits with the lid closed. I have the same tank you do. Thanks! Link to comment
rhunter513
borjam - can you clarify for me. Tunze is going to replace your skimmer with one that has a smaller collection cup so that it will fit into a rear chamber (jbj nanocube 24g DX) with the lid closed? Or are they just sending you a smaller collection cup? Either way it sounds promising. For now, I have decided to hold out to see if the rumors are true that Sapphire Aquatic skimmers will come back on the market thur nanocustoms. Thanks Link to comment
