mike2k7
Hi all. im just about to set up my sump and was wondering the best way to do this to make it a fuge aswell (how many chambers, what goes in each chamber etc)? Also could someone tell me how to work out how much flow is needed. Thanks Mike Link to comment
siwelk
IMO, the best way to setup the sump is skimmer - return - fuge that way you can use a ball valve to regulate flow to the fuge an dial it back for max. efficiency put a triple bubble trap between the skimmer and return, over/under/over and make the baffle between the fuge and return higher to accomodate a DSB in the fuge. HTH Edit: you should put an ATO in the return section, since this is where evap. occurs. Link to comment
mike2k7
Thanks for the reply siwelk. Why do you put the fuge at the end? Why do i need to control flow to the fuge? If the water comes from the overflow into the skimmer section then through the bubble trap nto the return section then pumped back into the tank then how does the water flow into the fuge. Im sorry if these questions are too basic but im new to this and really want to learn WHY rather than just following instructions. Thanks for the help Mike Link to comment

Thanks for the helpMike you want low flow through your fuge. to accomplish this simply "T" off your return line and redirect it to the fuge. use a ball valve on the return line to dial in low flow through the fuge. the water will overfow the fuge baffle and fall into the return section, to be pumped back into the display tank. Edit: the picture on Melev's site show this application. Link to comment
