I just placed an order for a 39 gallon cadlight tank, but was wondering if I should change my order and use my BC 14 as a refugium. Then I could get maybe the 39 gallon cadlight professional without the built in fuge, and plumb it into the BC 14? Can it work (work well that is)? Is anyone using a nano tank as a refugium? Was it hard to plumb? Do you think it would be cheaper to buy the 39 tank only from CADlights rather than buying the full 39 gallon signature w/ refugium from Cadlights? Link to comment

Do you think it would be cheaper to buy the 39 tank only from CADlights rather than buying the full 39 gallon signature w/ refugium from Cadlights? i haven't yet plumbed it, that's my project for next weekend. because it's lower than the CAD i'm going to raise it up a bit and have a pump push water from the BC into the CAD, and then a return hose driven by siphon feed back into the BC, making sure that the water levels are close enough that the BC doesn't flood should the pump give-out. i'll also wire-up a float switch to shut the pump off if the water level goes lower than a certain point in the BC. as for which is cheaper -- either way you're going to pay through the nose, so go with what makes you happier. if i had it to do over again i'd get the tank without rear chambers because they take up a huge amount of display space in both the 34 and upcoming 39 -- i'd much rather have an external refugium and all the extra display space, which really makes a difference in your aquascaping choices. it's definitely a lot more work though to start out with a separate refugium, although i'm doing it anyway 5 months after setting up.
