I am dosing Purple Up and it is dropping my KH to around 8. Water changes correct this back to a 10-11 but by the end of the week i am back down to 8. What is the best way to handle this?

Buffer. Like kent marine buffer.

Or stop dosing Purple Up, Do you monitor your calcium levels? Iodine levels?

are you dosing the correct amounts of purple up? there really is no need for this product if you are doing weelkly water changes. Most salts have calcium included, and yes you should be testing for this. Are you sure it is the Purple up that is messing with your hardness?

Toss the Purple Up and get a good 2 part like ESV. :P

Yes i am pretty sure it is Purple up... What else could it be??? nothing in the tank has changed except this. Yes i do keep an eye on Calcium, I have to dose because the tank uses the calcium, it drops by the end of the week so i kick it in the rear with a once a week dose. i keep it between 420-450. No i do not keep an eye on iodine. I just dose like the bottle says and let the Xenia go crazy :happydance:

I have been thinking of testing for Iodine but the LFS says not to worry about it with all the Xenia.

Been thinking about moving to another form of calcium like Kalk or the two part or buffering. Not sure what to do

I would switch if all you are looking for is calcium. Purple up shouldn't be used IMO for a suppliment. I would look into a good two part solution.

Instead of a huge 1 dose a week deal, why not try a simple low dose once or twice a day. I dose 1/8th tsp of calcium morning, and then again at night.
