RookieNano
I have a 10 gallon AIO with a magenta dotty back. Getting ready to turn out the lights for the night and I notice small white spots on the tail, head, fins, etc. Definitely the ick. Can anyone recommend anything I can do tonight to treat it instead of waiting to go to the LFS tomorrow for a solution? Will a water change help at all? Not sure I can do anything as it's 11:00 pm on a Sunday night. Recommendations please... And by the way, who thought the Giants could pull off a win in Super Bowl XLII? RookieNano. Link to comment

Six
A water change will actually be better than meds. Your fish may also have tiny specks of detritus and or sand on his slime coat from going in and out of rocks. Dottybacks are much more likely to have this happen than to actually get ich, they aren't very prone to getting it. Hence I wouldn't medicate until you see it for another day. If the fish is sick, test the water. Fish disease is very closely related to the environment the fish is in. If there's something out of wack, the fish will tell you with behavior or disease. Before adding any chemicals, test the water and retest to get accuracy. pH, KH, temp., SG, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia. Link to comment

I tested the water on Thursday and all was well, SG, Nitrates, Nitrites, Ph, Ammonia, etc. Water parameters were prime. I have been dosing (1st time) for calcium with Kent Nano 2 Part, which I assume is accurate enough to prevent huge fluxuations after a single dose. The fish seems to want to "shake off" whatever is on him (been in the tank 3 months on a 5 month-old tank). He was fine until I purchased a peppermint shrimp and a zoa frag Thursday and was fine all weekend until late tonight (Sunday). I wonder if it was the frag or the shrimp. Something spread it and I need to get it under control before it gets out of control. Help appreciated please..... --Rookie Link to comment

A whole lot of ####!ng banter despite solutions from Six. did you dip the frag... or did you acclimate the pep shrimp?? if you can wait it out and see try to set up a qt tank on the side with a power head and a heater just in case you do have to dose anything. Get the water to as close as normal as possible. I hope you didn't put he LFS water into your tank, if you did... it happens. We all expect the to have optimal conditions, but unfortunatley, a lot of them are just in it for the money. Link to comment

I have been getting my livestock from the LFS for 3+ years with no problems, so shame on me (I first started with a a 30 gallon , we live and learn). I didn't do a frag dip. And I did "put the LFS water into "MY" tank" Did ! #### Myself? Link to comment
