animalrie
From what I have read, there is no salt mix that does not need anything added to the water, so my question is this. Which salt needs which additive to make the water levels good? Thanks!!! Link to comment
justaguy2
Bump? I don't think there are any salt mixes that have been 100% consistent over time. Salt mixes aren't like fertilizers where there are laws requiring a guaranteed analysis. When is the last time you saw salt with the amount of iodine and calcium on it? You just have to go with a brand lots of people are using and getting good results from and then test your water for the major things that might be undersupplied. I am using Reef Crystals and find it tests at 380 calcium freshly mixed so if I wished to go with some stony corals I would need to find a different salt or add calcium over time. I haven't tested for iodine, but everything molts just fine so it doesn't seem to be an issue. Bottom line is nobody really knows how much of what is in any given bucket of salt mix. We assume it's more of less OK and test for what we need to and add things if necessary. If you elect me president I promise to make salt mix makers label their products with a guaranteed analysis, but other than that there isn't much I can do. Link to comment
