Drez
I absolutely can't stand the tern "false perc" or "false clown". I cringe when I hear it. I hate it as it implies that "true" percs are in some way superior. Worst yet, some people even carry some form of fish "elitism' and almost snub "false" percs as being the cheap alternative to the real thing. Rubbish. Many hobbyists can't even tell the difference; if anything I might argue that the thinner bars on a "false" makes then marginally more attractive. Don't tell me it's a rarity issue either, they might be on a relative scale but true percs are still one of the easiest fish in the hobby to find. Then again maybe you have a love for extra dorsal spines or just love the Aussie accent your perc has. Either way… …let's just drop the true/false. You have a Percula I have an Ocellaris. Anyone else feel this way? Link to comment
theclearblue
False percs are cheaper, and for good reason. They're easier to pair, quicker to spawn, and the young are quicker to grow to sellable size. (B&W's are an exception to this) It's commonly used terminology, get over it. Link to comment
SeeDemTails
So are there are B&W false perc and occelaris? I have b & w's, and I have been told they are occelaris? Link to comment
$aint
So there are B&W false perc and occelaris? I have b & w's, and I have been told they are occelaris? Ocellaris' are false perc's. I hear ya drez... but falsie's do get their props when they're of the b&w, snowflake, or picasso variations. Link to comment

eklikewhoa
I like the robust look of percs. It's either a. percula or a. ocellaris. Link to comment

Orange Crush
true percula ARE superior. This is true. It's like name brand or generic. Your false perc has this fake icky orange color. But the true percs...nice deep orange. God was using the cheap coloring when he made the falsies. Link to comment
$aint
what about snowflakes clearblue... are they trues as well? ocellaris have the naked variation too, tho IMO they look a bit like goldfish. Link to comment

I don't know, I've heard that snowflakes are ocellaris but I've also heard from reliable sources that they're hybrids. Link to comment

Sounds to me Ocellaris are the Rolex and Perc's are the Bolex. God might have used cheaper paint but he gave Ocellaris the good engine. Link to comment

Easier to pair, faster to spawn? Link to comment

chrisdamage
After owning both... I would say that they act the exact same, etc... but True Percs just look much better IMHO... they seem to be a little more aggressive too for whatever reason. Link to comment
Drez
So Vandersloot where did you dump the body? I am glad you did it, she looked like a stuck up rich girl to me. Irrelevant. Inappropriate. Hopefully the new avatar has your approval? Drez, take a chill man... Would you prefer Nemo & False Nemo? Haha. You got me all wrong. I'm hardly upset, just trying to lay to rest an inaccurate term. A pet peeve you know, like "cute as a button". Buttons aren't cute. You can say tomato I can say tomato but we both know deep down tomato is right Link to comment
