The Frog
Now here's a question. I went to this new LFS (Or possibly old, I've never seen it at least) and everything looked pretty good, the stock, the displays, the prices...The guy even had a Nano-Tank up. So I talk to the guy there...and he said that if I use the water from is already cycled tanks, I don't have to worry about cycling, and could therefore put everything (including the fish) in the tank in one day. One thing I learned from this site and all the SW books I've read is that "Instant" is a very rare word in the saltwater hobby. I do not know about this guy, whether he's trying to make a buck (Which I don't think so, since he's selling the fish and LR at what would only be internet prices and giving away the water for free), has the wrong idea, or is really giving me genuine advice. I personally think, that since the water is being placed in a new environment, and the bacterial colonies have not grown on the tank bottom under the substrate, not to mention there's a new filter that has to adjust to the bio-load, as well as the introduction of Live Rock, that putting the fish in would be foolish. I'm pretty sure that using this pre-cycled saltwater will greatly reduce the time of the cycling process, but not delete it. Any thoughts? Link to comment

Any thoughts? fully cured rock fully cured sand and water from a cycled tank will NEARLY eliminate your cycle but not completely eliminate it. your tank may cycle in as little as a week. but still wait a little bit, better safe than sorry. you seem to already be well aware this is a hobby thats all about patience. glennr1978
I have two thoughts. 1. He IS just trying to make a buck. 2. You seem to have already figured this out, good job. Link to comment

constantocean
Ah, the educated Newb strikes again! He seems like he's trying to help you by offering the water to you for free. But thats just because he knows if you fall for it and start putting stuff into your tank right away, he's getting your money sooner. TA-DA. scam revealed. Link to comment
The Frog
Of course, I can take his free water and still wait a month if I want too. As long as he's not one of those cheap guys who give you infected water...ugh that would be horrible... Has anyone here had experience with this shop named "The Red Sands"? Link to comment

constantocean
Dunellen, by the pharmacy. Lol. I live in your hood. Right up warrenville road. That guy seems to be pretty nice he has such a beautiful coral display tank. Buuuut I've never seen another customer in there at the same time as me so he's probably just pretty desperate to make a buck. Link to comment
The Frog
I KNOW!!! That tank is awesome! Must be a 250 gal at the least! Same thing here about other customers not being there. I really hope he's not the scamming kind of guy, his store looks great and could be very good. Maybe he's just new. Link to comment

And his display on the left when you first walk in is a 650 gallon tank. the one in the center I'm not sure of size on. Link to comment
