121a
This thread will be for all those who want to make a custom tank, but don't know what they need or what it will look like when it is done. I'll be using google sketchup for my 3-d drawings. If you have some tank plans you want to share post them, and give the gallonage of the aquarium (calculator) along with thickness of glass, and if you want glass needed (panes w/inches of each pane). So here are some of mine: 9"x9"x9" Cube (model says 9.5H but it was a miscalc on my part. Gal-3.15 Glass needed- 1/4" Thick Bottom- 8.5"x8.5"(qty1) Sides-8.5"x9"(qty2) Font/back-9"x9" (qty 2) 12" Cube Gal-7.5 Glass needed- 1/4" Thick Bottom- 11.5"(qty1) Sides-11.5x12"(qty2) Font/back-12"x12" (qty 2) Shallow and Long Gal-18.7 Glass needed- 1/4" Thick Bottom- 23.5"x17.5"(qty1) Sides-17.5"x18"(qty2) Font/back-18"x18" (qty 2) Hole Size- 1-3/4" for 1" bulkhead Overflow is black acrylic or you can use whatever. I believe i made the box 4.5"4.5"x17.70". If you want a custom tank drawn for you (free) please contact me with the dimensions and I'll wipe it up when i have time. The tanks i created on sketchup are assembled with all the sides on the side of the bottom, not all the sides on the bottom. I heard either way does not matter but that is how these are assembled. **********I JUST DRAW THESE, NO GUARANTEES THAT THEY WORK, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK*********** Link to comment

Withers
Keep in mind that as you go bigger and bigger with custom tanks, build your tank to fit a specific light that you want. MH can usually handle about a 24"x24" footprint. If you raise them up farther you could potentially get away with more. T5 fixtures come in 24", 36" and 48" lengths (and higher). Just don't screw yourself over with dimensions and then not be able to light it easily. Link to comment
